I'm off to the Dorgogne next week for 10 days and am after some recommendations for good books to read whilst lazing around the pool.
I like most type of books and especially ones that are easy to read 'trashy novels' as I will have my DD's with me so will be picking the book up and down a lot:grin:
Thanks

Lucy in the Sky and Johnny Be Good by Paige Toon are really good...well not "good" in a literary sense ,but I really enjoyed them!

The author is a Heat journalist.
Have just looked on Amazon and other people seemed to enjoy them too!

I'd also recommend Slummy Mummy - really good entertainment. I find anything by Jackie Collins or Jilly Cooper brilliant for holiday reading.

I am reading 'Second Chance' by Jane Green. It's classic chick-lit, easy to read and dip in and out of, and its kept me amused for a couple of days.

Before that I read 'The Forgotten Garden' by Kate Morton, that was good too.

Loved The Memory Keeper's Daughter, i couldnt stop thinking about it when i finished it.

Using son's log on here but I'm sure he won't mind;)

I would recommend the books by Sophie Kinsella, can't remember all the titles but the latest I think was Shopaholic & Baby. There's also Diary of a Shopaholic. They were really funny and easy to pick up especially if distracted by little ones.

In fact I think I could read them all again & might dig one out right now:d:!

Why don't you try something 'regional'?

On our trip to Egypt in JanuaryI took 'Alexandria and Pyramid'

So for southern France I wouls recommend 'Labayrithe' and 'Sepulchure' by Kate Mosse.

I loved Labarynth and memory keepers daughter and slummy mummy...just read another really good one but can't remember the name..it's really funny about a girl that is writing a novel....but isn't, anyone know the name?

Love anything by Sophie Kinsella, really easy reading and makes you laugh out loud...a lot!! Jane Green is very good too.

James Patterson....find it hard to put his books down too, i didn't think i'd like them but my sister forced me to read the first chapter of one of his books and i've been hooked ever since!

I just love books, always got a couple on the go!

Anything by Katie Fforde is good for a relaxing read. They all tend to follow a similar formula, but that's sometimes what you want for holidays - and they all have a happy ending.

My recent reads are:

PS I love you - Heartbreaking and funny! ( much better than the film)

Secret Diary of a Demented Housewife - absolutely hilarious with Irish Humour!

I'm reading Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy at the minute and found it a bit difficult to get into at the beginning but loving it now!

For my wee break to Salou next weekend I have the choice of ( if I have finished Slummy Mummy but then) Shopaholic and Baby or the new Katie Price Book?

Not really sure which one to go for - lazy days by the pool may require Katie Price!LOL

The Shopaholic books are FAB! I loved Jane Green's book (Life Swap?) - it was about a woman swapping her life in the US with someone in the UK - very apt as I read it in Fl and thought `if only...........`lol! I also like Jill Mansell for chick lit...and Patricia Scanlan!

I have the first 2 Jordan books sitting here doing nothing, if you'd like I'll post them to you and you can have them? I don't want them back.... I really don't mind............I have just been bought the new one in HB but am keeping it for next month when we go to Normandy :)

Happy reading whichever you choose :)

I have quite a pile of books in my bedroom which are unread at the moment and am trying to decide which to take. I have 3 different Jill Mansell's, a Carol Matthews, the PS I Love You book and the Life Swap book as well as a Katie FForde.

We aren't going for another 3 weeks so if the weather stays nice here (fat chance!) I will probably read a couple or so of them before I go whilst sitting in the back garden with a Pimms.

James Patterson? What sort of books?

I've only read one by him, just finished it, called 'The Quickie'. It was co-written with someone else, and a really good thriller type story. The chapters are only a couple of pages long each, so really quick to read, and it keeps you wanting to read more.:)

Well I thought Smiths were expensive so I opted for Tesco 2 for £7 offer - No time for goodbye and Crystal (by Katie Price, haven't read any of these so thought I would give it go for light reading.) I fancied a biography but there weren't many in the offer in Tesco only 'My Booky Wooky' and I'm not that keen on him so I didn't bother.

one of my other favourite books was "suzannes diary for Nicholas" "a totally different genre for james patterson)not holiday reading though as it will make you cry,, i read this book in two days as i couldn't put it down, you know what it's like you're waiting for a page to end on, but this book is soo good you can't stop turning the pages, but i highly reccomend you read this book before your jollies,
P.S don't watch the film version of this book it's total trash, nothing like the book at all

I read Yummy Mummy and The WAG's Diary and both were really good and easy to dip in and out of. I never managed to get to Second Chance but there's always Florida to read that one.

I love all of Christina Jones's books. They are all stand alone stories but the characters reappear throughout the series in one way or another. I adore them for a nice easy fun read. She only write about one a year and I am always waiting for the next one.

Any book by Jodi Piccoult is a must, Alex Kava and Lisa Gardener are both really good crime/thriller writers. Hope this helps.
