How Does Space Mountain In Florida Compare To Space Mountain In Paris?? :)

Two very different rides. The Space Mountain in Paris is more akin to Rock'n'Roller coaster - there's a propelled launch at the beginning, high speed tracks and a couple of loop-the-loops. All in all, a very intense, but VERY fun, ride. The soundtrack is also awesome!
The Space Mountain in Florida is very tame in comparison. You sit in a carriage behind each other in a line (one person per row) and twist and turn through the dark on a pleasant, but not overly scary track. The fact you're sitting in the dark makes you feel like you're going really fast, but it's actually a relatively slow coaster. Having said that, it's still one my favourites at WDW. An absolute classic as far as rides are concerned.
There are VERY strong rumours circulating at the moment that Space Mountain in WDW will be under-going an extensive re-hab at the beginning of next year, which could involve over six-months of work. If this turns out to be true, I wonder if they will make it more like it's sister in Paris, with a bit more ooomph to it...

The penny drops ..................................
I couldn't understand why Space Mountain had changed so much in two years.
On our first trip to orlando I hadn't done Space Mountain but we had been to DLP twice and I had ridden it numerous times.
Got on it in Orlando last year and thought it was sooooooooooooooooo different. Now I know why.
The DLP Space Mountain is so much better. The Orlando one is a real pussy of a ride compared to Paris. I really hope the change it - preferably before next year (when I go).

According to Touringplans.com Spac Mountain will close in Jan 09 for a 14 month refurb.
Space Mountain is an old ride and does need refurb. Also I think WDW needs to supply attractions that meet growing and changing expectations.

Got to agree with everyone else.
I rode the DLP Space Mountain first and loved it, so when I went on the MK one it was a big disappointment. Don't get me wrong it's still a fun ride, just so dated.

I hope they update the one in WDW to be like the one in Paris too. Won't be before my next trip though - just means I'll have to go back to try it out :)

Personally, I love Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom
admittedly, it is a bit of an old, rickety ride
but i still love it, coz its great fun!
but i think a refurb is probably for the best!
give us a reason to go back ;)

I like Space Mountain at MK. It is old and it is in need of a refurb but I really hope they don't make it like the one in Paris.
I love my coasters and thrill rides but the one in Paris just killed my head and ears. It was so painful.
I did it on our first Paris trip and thought it was rough. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it the next trip but same story.
Its the only ride I have come off of in pain!!:omg:
I heard they were making the MK one more like the California one but I've no idea what thats like.

Leanne is right, Space Mountain at MK will more or less definitely be redone the same way as the Californian version did a couple of years ago. It is basically just a modern version of the classic ride, it doesn't go upside down, it features bigger trains with people sitting in rows of two, similar to Splash Mountain. In essence it's the same ride but with bigger drops and smoother turns, which I think is a better idea than a copy of DLP's Space Mountain, it holds true to the classic.

I really hope they dont refurb it to be like the one in Paris - the original is a classic and there are already loads of rollercoasters in Florids which will throw you upside down! I prefer Space Mountain the way it is - its more "Disney" :)

Refurbing similar to California's sounds like the most reasonable idea - no reason to theme it like the DLP version as that's what you get with RnR in Hollwood Studios / MGM... Although I heard somewhere that Disney are looking to change the RnR ride? Would hate them to change this - just love the pre ride show... SUPER STRETCH!!! :d:

I think thats a great idea. That way they keep the classic side of the ride but make it smoother and therefore better.:thumbs-up
I would look forward to this happening and I know my boys would still love it, its one of their favs.:spin:
I think that space mountain at WDW is similar to the black hole at Alton Towers, in darkness on a rollercoaster that is quite jerky and fast.
