what is the best way to use fastpass
Best advice is to look at the return time before you get a fastpass, especially at the very popular rides. You may have a return time several hours away thus preventing you getting another fastpass until your return window opens.
Also, be aware that though you can't use the FP before the window opens, the CMs will accept fastpasses where the return window has passed
Another tip is that if the return window isn't that far in advance, grab a fast pass and then join the standby queue (as long as the queue isn't really long) - by the time you have queued and been on the ride, you window will be open and you can ride again straight away.

Plan which rides you do not want to miss and use the fast passes with them. Get a second fast pass as soon as you can (the pass you have tells you when you can get another, usually when the window opens for use of the first pass).
With some of the more popular rides such as Toy Story Mania, you will need to get to the park early and go there for a pass right away otherwise you will some ridiculous time on your pass eg we went at 10.30 am and got a pass for 5.30 pm.
Generally for the shows, I wouldn't say they are necessary but there are exceptions such Indiana Jones where you couldn't even get in without a pass for any show two weeks ago.
Oh, and if you go to the machine and there is a fellow in front of you holding a tour flag and feeding over a hundred tickets into a machine, go to another machine and get passes quickly before he drives the return time up by an hour or two :confused2
Make sure you pick up your original park tickets, too.
