View Full Version : Illuminations Earth Globe changes
Just read this, is it the golf ball type thing they are talking about ?
July 24 – Possible date for Illuminations Earth Globe changes …
It has been known for a while that the Earth Globe at the Illuminations: Reflections of Earth fireworks show (Epcot) will soon be removed for refurbishment. It’s now thought the large Globe will no longer be in the show from August 13th although this date could well change. Instead of the Globe being the centre piece of the show there will be more pyrotechnics and a few other adjustments to other parts of the show. It’s not known how long the refurbishment will last.

It's the globe on a barge which sails out into the centre of the lagoon and forms the centrepiece of Illuminations.

That's not good :( It means that both this and Spectromagic be being re-done whilst we are there :(
Ok, thanks. Did not realise this. Must say i'am getting a little annoyed as Disney seem to have made a few cancellations since i booked, i know work has to be done some time but why during the summer holidays (UK).

You would think they would have the sense to know by doing work on the bridge and the ball at the same time causing disruption to the evening activites would severely P people off??

It will be a shame but it wont spoil the illuminations display for us. For us Illuminations is all about the fireworks and what happens in the sky and that wont be affected. Irs worse when you travel out of season and you find your fav ride to be close for refurbishment.

We love to see this, it brings a lump to the throat - does it say how long it will be.
Cant say ill miss it, I always find this section of the show a little boring. I would much prefer to see more firewors

No, that was the full article and dont forget it says POSSIBLE.
rumour is it will be gone for 4-6 weeks when they do take it away. I cannot imagine how they will perform illuminations without it. It was odd enough when the fire barge exploded a few years ago and was down for a few months!

Oh thats a shame but at least the actual show is still going to be on. If Illuminations was being taken away then I would be seriously annoyed!!:omg:
But although its a bit of a downer, it won't spoil our enjoyment. Particularly mine as I'm a shorty and can rarely see it beyond peoples heads anyway!!:D
It's not that long since they did it? We did the UFW at Epcot in January 2007 and on it we went backstage to where the globe is kept. They said then that as soon as New Year was over, the globe would be refurbed. It is all the LCD screens that burn out and have to be replaced.
I don't mind - actually find that bit of ROE boring lol

As well as providing the "magic", Disney do seem very good at P'ing people off too.

Oh no... i'm in the same league as - SpectroMagic and the globe at same time :nonono:
I hope they don't change the music :(
Well July 24th has gone... fingers crossed...
Darn, MousePlanet are saying new rumoured date is 13 August.
Andre
Now the 13th August has gone by, does anyone know whether the globe has been taken out of the Illuminations show or not?

Excellent news. Hopefully it will still be out while we are there. Have always hoped the globe would sink just as it leave the side.
Sorry but the show is good but the globe bit is pants. If it means more fireworks etc then thumbs up from me.
As for knocking Disney for doing refurbs. They have to do them some time and it is unfortunate that it is being done during the summer break over here. When ever they do them someone is going to get ticked off. Unfortunate I say

The globe there is part of the storyline. I think its more down to the sponsor than Disney as they fund the show. Its easy to change parts of the show everything is linked to a main control system which I think is in the top of the American main building. Its all set by computers. I guess there do all the testing after 10pm when the park is closed unless extra hours is at Epcot is on.
