Hello All,
We are staying at a villa in Highlands Reserve and will hopefully be stocking up on buffet breakfasts!
Previously we have stayed either onsite or on I-Drive so not so sure of this area. Does anyone have any recommendations about which locations are good/bad? For instance, there are 2 Ponderosas in the area but would hate to pass by a good one in favour of a poor one!!
Just looking for some general guidance I think really...there is nothing worse than spending 1/2 an hour in the morning trying to decide where to go!
Thanks in advance,
Laura

I'm not sure of your location but if you're talking about the Ponderosa on the 192 I wouldn't bother ! The last time we went to a Ponderosa was 3 yrs ago, food was dreadful and the place filthy. We would rather pay a bit more and go the the Golden Corral, there are a couple on the 192 and the food is always good. It costs $7.99 for breakfast but that includes your tea/coffee plus if you get the coupon books you can get 50 cents off for breakfast.
Another nod for the Golden Corral.I really dont like any ponderosa resturants, they look old and worn, the food is alright but they took their time in replacing any empty racks.
We prefer the ponderosa for breakfast and use the 1 on the 192 near the old lake wilson road turn off! we have used Golden Corrall and it's fine, but we would never return to the Sizzlers on the 192, the smell inside was foul and the food was stone cold!!

there is a new Golden corral just opened on the 192 opposite the junction for celebration it was very busy though and we couldn't get in after trying 3 times we eventually went to the one at Lake Brian which is excellent value, however we are going off the all you can eat thing as you can feel like herded cattle and prefering the quieter restaurants such as friendlys / Bob Evans / Crackerbarrel etc
one to miss is the Las Vegas grill (has a poor hygiene record) if you like chinese food the New York China buffet at Crossroads is nice

Shoneys is quite popular. Don't know if there's one on I-Drive (can't recall seeing one) but there's a couple on the 192.
IHoP do a breakfast buffet too iirc, although I'll always have a menu item in IHoP because they're soooo good :D

We've stopped going to the Golden Corral on the 192 (Maingate west) after a poor experience. Dirty utensils, kids eating from the serving spoons, food over the floor, piles of dirty plates left on tables - yuk!

Maybe its a personal opinion but how anyone could possibly return to eat in the Ponderosa defies logic. Once is bad enough but to go back again is uncalled for. So this establishment is definately my worst.
Best would be Whistle Junction. There used to be one near Ron John's surf shop on Idrive. It was closed last year but we discovered one way down 192. It was fresh food with lovely chicken breast, spuds (its an Irish thing) and steaks after three. Well worth it for $25 for the four of us.

Have to agree with you there, we went to the one on 192, I think, not far from Black Angus but can't remember it's exact location, sorry.
Not a buffet but still good for big portions is Cracker Barrel, their buttermilk pancakes are so yummy. We usually have this on our last day to fill us up until we get to the departure lounge (about 8 hours later!)

We love the Golden Coral on the 192. My husband is still talking about it.
We went to the Golden Coral on I drive and was very disappointed. Dirty Plates, uncleared tables, the server did not offer us coffee or tea.

in our opinion the buffets are dreadful and should be avoided. You eat far to much and things you would never eat normally i.e cakes and ice cream just beause you can. We always came out saying never again. I would rather eat breakfast in the apartment.

Thanks everyone,
It's always good to hear other people's experiences - I know some of the buffets can be a bit and miss!!
Am I right in thinking Golden Corral have an omelette chef for breakfast? I think we went to one in 2005 and seem to remember having a selection of omelettes to scoff may way through!!
Definitely going to try IHOP and some other locations to get a bit more variety in though :tounge:. I suppose it's like everything - some people may love a place and someone else won't - just got to 'suck it and see'

Hi
We own a villa on Westridge which is next door to Highlands reserve. I agree that the buffets are pretty dreadfull.
Dennys is good and so is Bob Evans both nearby. They are not buffet but they do pretty good breakfasts at a resonable price.
Hope this helps

we went to golden coral on 192 near formosa gardens area, in may this year because we had been before and it was really good and we all enjoyed it but now it is awful, there was food on the floors , tables not cleaned, food area was a mess, we'll never go back again it made me cringe . now we go to denny's or perkins much nicer.

Yeh, the GC do have an omelette chef and they make great omelettes to order with loads of fillings to choose from (yum yum!). DH cant wait to go back again - we went to the GC at LBV last year and loved it ;).
Personally I cant wait to try the IHOP brekkie, the menu looks fab! :thumbs-up

Don't forget Perkins - not buffets but divine brekkie's - the one at Crossroads @ LBV is by far the nicest we've been to (avoid the one on the H27 near to Tuscan Hills!)
Hth!

We've been to the Golden Corrall on the 192 (Maingate West) twice, both occasions the place was a complete mess. We went the second time as we thought we'd give it a another chance - wrong!
Denny's remains my favourite for breakfast.
