View Full Version : Tom Tom !
I would like one of these for use at home with the traffic add on. Can I get one over in Wallmart to use at home and would it be better value ? :)

Its would probably come only with maps for Florida and other state in the south or all US maps at the best. You would need to buy UK maps for use at home, also the traffic add on may not be avaliable or not compatable with UK.
If you want to use it a lot in the UK, it may be best to buy here as there seems lots of offers on at Argos, Halfords etc; then buy the maps for the US.

Carys you could always buy it there. When you get home, if you want to add more maps to it, you could get them from the website.

Thanks that was what I was wondering :)

Not sure that the Traffic is the same in both countries. I have a Tomtom One XL T, and am sure I read that the Traffic only works in the UK, due to the different Radio Frequencies used in each country.
Probably best to check it out on the TomTom site - might be that you can buy TomTom in Florida, but leave the purchase of the Traffic until you get home?

Do you mean the subscript based Traffic system (which uses your mobile phone to download data), or the RDS TMC aerial based system?
If you mean the RDS TMC aerial based one, do not buy the package including the aerial in the USA, as the aerial will not work in the EU. You'll need to buy a seperate European RDS TMC aerial.

You can get them from the tomtom (http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/select.php?D=1083&Language=1&P=412#) site.
You should change the settings for the correct model, though I suspect it's the same file.

Probably a better idea. The small amount of money you might save isn't worth all the hassle you might have.
