is it worth driving down to miami beach?

I wouldn't recommend it for only a day trip,its a long 5 hour journey there and 5 hours back.
We spent a few days in the Keys and drove back and spent a day in Miami,South Beach is stunning!!

Yes it's worth it but not for a day. It's quite a drive and an easy drive at that but I would recommend you stay a couple of nights.
South beach is amazing as is Ocean Drive and Miami is good for a boat trip just to see the stunning and beautiful houses out there.:d:

Yes, it is worth going, but like everyone else not for one day, we went and stayed in the best western thunderbird, we were right on the beach, good moderate hotel

If you want to go to the beach and are staying in Orlando, try the west coast where you have a such a choice: st petes, madeira, treasure island or clearwater to name a few. Personally I would go to st petes beach, I have been to Miami a couple of times and the beaches are nowhere near as good. I found that the beaches on the west coast are a lot better and cleaner than those on the east.

We stayed 2 nights in Miami o Lincoln Road. It is a fabulous place, South Beach is beautiful, I ahve never seen water so clear ( and have been to Clearwater Beach) and warm. It is a fab place for people watching and I would highly recommend the Duck Tour and a trip to Bayside marketplace.
We loved it so much are hoping to go back for a week in 09.
