I heard that last year the centre was closed or had severe restricted access follofing September 11th. Is this still the case or are all parts now open?
I will be there maybe next week or the following week (Yippee holiday has arrived at last!!!!)

Most of it seems to be accesible from the buses - I don't know what it was like before 9/11 - we didn't get out for the observation tower as we were on the last bus of the day and wanted to spend most of our time with the Saturn V (being old fogies who were at school when man first landed on the moon). One thing you do need to know, that we didn't, is that your ticket is actually valid for 2 days, but as we went there on the last day of our trip it wasn't any use to us :( Really pee'd off about that as there was a launch planned for the next day which we didn't know about :(

Ashley,
DW and I have been a couple of times since 9.11. Only difference now is that in common with most public access sites in the US, there is a bag check at the entrance. There is , or was, a scanner as well that you walk through, the same as the type at the airport.
Apart from that, everything is open, just as it was before 9.11.
Have a great time!
Pete
KSC is open for business
Something that is not mention is the ticket covers 2 day (as pointed out by raksha (my better half!) thats the $39 dollar one! there was a cheaper one available) and if you want to do it all you need the two days.
we were there last friday, the rocket park, main area and the Shuttle area are just a small part of the display, the bus tour takes a good cuople of hours and the items in the KSC shop are different from those in the Saturn V shed, ie you can buy a arange of apollo patches there, there not available, well i never saw them in the main shop.
aslo there is thye hall of fame, which is about 5 miles from KSC, first thing you pass, we allowed a day for KDC and never got it all done! :(
there was a sign in the car park that said no bags, but when we got there they were allowing small ones in with a search.
The must see items are the imax theatre and the saturn v both are awsome!

Thank you one and all. I went in 1985 and it was great. My mum realy wasn't looking forward to it but loved the day when she got there. Now I am a dad and my two boys are also into rockets I want to take them, so its great to know that KSC is open. One week to go and I'll be there.
Raksha and XeroX hope that you had a great holiday.

Ashley, can you do a trip report for us when you return please? We will be visiting KSC in the summer and would love to hear what you thought of the place.

I think its one of those places that you have to see at least once. It is very interesting especially the Saturn 5 display - you can actually touch a piece of the moon:jump: :jump:

I think KSC is great.
Its been over 3 years since I went so I reckon a re-visit is on the cards for 2005

I agree with you Jules, I'm not a fan of KSC. And never mind spending too much time on the bus, we spend forever waiting for the buses

The bus is the price you have to pay - the place is so vast it's the only way to see it, after all they couldn't allow EVERY private car access to drive around anywhere they wanted.........

We went in August 2002 and the only thing that was closed was the International Space Station assembly building. We could really have done with another half day to see everything as we missed quite a bit despite having a whole day there.
I love KSC. We never found we were waiting for the bus for very long. I think its somewhere you could visit once.

Now back and unfortunately we never made it to KSC so I cannot help... Hoping to go next time though.
And in response to ROB THE DRUNK - Thanks for the help in training. I realy should have done some while I was out there. London Marathon did not go well, blame this on Visiting too many theme parks, jet lag, lack or training for marathon in final two weeks... Still Florida was better and would not swaped it for just so I could get a fast time in the London Marathon.
