Can anyone tell me more about Indian shores, as we are spending a week there in Nov. We usually go to Clearwater, but are finding accomodation more and more expensive there.
What is it really like??? warts and all

Welcome to the Dibb!

I'm sorry I can't help you myself but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can!

What do you need to know? I live only a few miles from there. It is about 20 - 30 minutes south of Clearwater Beach on the chain of islands along the gulf coast. It is an area of smaller hotels which can be good bargains. It's a quieter area than Clearwater Beach, but the waters the same! There are some small public beaches there, but most hotels/motels have their own beach frontage.

Some of my favorite restaurants are located in Indian Shores or just ajacent to it. A very nice one is the Salt Rock Grill, which specializes in steak and seafood. Its a little expensive but has some excellent food. Others good ones are the Wine Cellar (continental cuisine) and the Lobster Pot , both of which are moderately expensive. Some more moderately priced restaurants are Shells (seafood), Brewmasters (steaks and seafood), The Hungry Fisherman, and the original Crabby Bill's to name just a few. A few miles south at Madeira Beach there is John's Pass Village for shopping and eating and deep sea fishing boats.

Nearby on the mainland (about 15 min.) is Heritage Park, a museum of old historic homes in a wooded setting. Next door are the Florida Botanical Gardens, a pretty place and they are both free. A few miles further to the east is the Largo Mall, at Seminole Blvd (alt 19) and Ulmerton Rd (688). This mall (an open type) seems to contain many of the Dibber's favorite restaurants:
Chilis, Olive Garden, Sweet Tomatoes, Red Lobster, Durango's, Golden Corral down the street, Sunny's BBQ across the street and an Outback Steakhouse a few miles away.

Anything else, just holler!

We stayed on Indian Shores 2 years ago, we were on the inlet side, would have preferred to be on the gulf side but we only had to cross the road to get to the beach. Sunsets were gorgeous, a beach is a beach along most of the coast, you saw the dolphins there as well as Caladesi. We ate at some of the places mentioned above, never had a bad meal. Loved Johns Pass, easily spent 1/2 a day there. Parking was quite expensive.
