Anyone got any tips?

I have just booked Discovery Cove for our trip in May. This will be our first time at DC and I am very excited (I have booked it as a birthday surprise for DH).

I have a few queries/questions for those of you who have been

1) Is there a best time of the day to take your dolphin swim?

2) I will be a non swimmer - can you easily take your own pictures of your family doing the dolphim swim or are they too far away (i.e. seaworld want you to buy their photos!!)

I was just wondering if there is anything that could make our day even better. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Becky

Early morning is the best time to swim as the Dolphins are more active.

Also you are a bit far away to take your own pictures.

If you watch my video I made then you will see what to expect.

The day before we had booked,we poped in to DC and the staff
allowed us to have a look inside from the foyer. This allowed us
to see what it was all about.THe best time to get there is just
after 8am ,as most families do arrive early.Make sure you gey some seats, you are better buying water shoes wshich you can get at walmart for about $ 6,as the dolphin pool is very rocky.
Also get a couple of waterproof disposable cameras,at walmart.
It is the best day out in orlando, worth every penny.

I second the disposable waterproof cameras bit - just been downloading our piccies today from our Walmart CD - got some great ones of our 8 year old snorkelling (he snorkels better than he swims!) The Discovery Cove piccies (the ones they want you to buy) are nice, but they make sure THEY are in the very best position to get the best shots, as a non swimmer, I'm afraid you won't be :( And waterproof cameras are not allowed in the Dolphin lagoon (incase the animals swallow them)

I would also say early is the best time as then you wont be clock watching all day and will be able to have lunch whenever you want to.

And don't forget your swimming cossies!!! Yes, we arrived and he though I had them, I thought he had - so I had to entertain the small people while he went back to get them............

We go to Discovery cove on August 10th:jump: :jump: :jump:

I know you need to get there early? But what would happen if you couldn't get a early swim and thunderstorms hit & you missed out?

Make sure you tell them it's his birthday (hopefully without him noticing). You can get them to put a special message on a floating log (a "float" disguised as a log) and a dolphin will push it up to him or your group.

Julie - you will be there the same day as us!

Julie,

If there's a thunderstorm in the immediate area everyone will need to get out of the water. If it lingers for any length of time you could miss out on your dolphin swim altogether. They'll offer to re-schedule for another day but if you're there in August there's a chance they'll be fully booked throughout your stay.

Much better to get there early and book a slot in the morning.

Best day of our holiday. I would agree get there early, we got there late and wasted a lot of time checking in and then being shown around.

Regards the photos there were nine of us, one was a non swimmer and video'd the experiance. The video is great, but that didn't stop us buying the CD of 20 photos which cost $200! This did at least come with a copyright to print photos as often as you want... OK OK some of you may just scan and do this anyway but it is technically illegal to do.

Also at the end of the experiance the non swimmer was invited in to join us for the final family photo with our Dolphin.

ENJOY it was a fantastic day and like everyone has said before me well worth every penny, especially as we had 14 day Seaworld\Busch Gardens ticket.
