Has anyone ever been on a Carnival Cruise....we are thinking about booking a 5 day cruise out of Tampa in September....as they seem really reasonable: about £260 per person for an ocean view cabin...visiting the Cayman Islands and Cozumel. Just wondering what everyone else's opinions were?

Not travelled with Carnival yet but plan to do so one day. Have cruised with Princess and have spoken to plenty of people who think Carnival are fine - think of them as upper mid-range in the cruise sector.

£260 sounds fantastic and if it were me - I'd jump at the chance - make sure the price includes all port fees and taxes.

We did the 7 night Carnival Glory out of Port Canaveral this Jan and I thought it was great. Having done 3 Disney cruises it was hard not to make comparissons but overal I really enjoyed Carnival and will be cruising with them again in the future. ( they are, in our case, a thousand or so $$ cheaper than Disney).
My only concern about the shorter Tampa based cruises is how old the ships are and what condition they are in..... I'm sure they'll be fine though, Carnival is a big company and sets pretty good standards or they wouldnt be market leader.
Check out
Cruise Critic.com (http://www.cruisecritic.com/) ask a few questions in their Carnival forum I picked up lots of info there before our Carnival cruise.

I've used cruise critic too, we have cruised P&O and Princess, we were going to do the carnival one from Tampa next year but are pushing the boat out and doing Disney 4 day before the boys get any older. Grand Cayman and Cozumel are 2 of my favourite ports. I had expected to be intimidated in Cozumel but the atmosphere was great.

Yes JJ we spent most ot the day there, went back to the ship and then wandered around the shops and bars!
I'm not a lover of fish to say the least and at Chankanaab I was standing thigh deep in water in the kids bit which is netted - I thought I was safe - talking to a lovely canadian family when 2 big ( dinner plate size) fish swam between my legs, well I havent moved that fast in years, much to the amusement of my DH and the canadians.
