Hi Everyone,

Nice forums, first time here and here and already found a wealth of info - thanks to all.

We're off on our first WDW trip end of May and have been wondering if anyone has any advice or good/bad experiences to share relating to Nut Allergies when dining out in WDW or the US in general.

Should we expect the usual UK disclaimer "May Contain Traces of ..." on almost every menu?

DD (9) suffers from mulitple allergies, most worrying being nuts - we carry an EpiPen Jr. adrenalin injection pen, which I believe is ok on the Plane with an accompanying Dr.s note.

Anything to dispel our slight trepidation would be most welcome. :confused2

P.S.
DS (6) has a question. He doesn't like chips :( - we've explained crisps are are called chips in the US - he likes crisps :p: - we've also explained chips are called fries - he doesn't like fries :( - and now he want's to know what are fries called? :erm: I have given up for the day - any suggestions ..........

Regarding the flight....

We went with Virgin in March and on the outward flight we were all asked to refrain from opening or eating any nut products while on the plane as another passenger had a severe allergy to nuts.

I don't know who you are flying with but why not let them know, and the flight crew on the day?

Our son was allergic to milk when we went to disney world in 2001, if your dining in a "restaurant in disney the staff are incredibly helpful" by this is mean table service not self. we had our character breakfast at Chef Mickeys. one of the chefs came out and took stuart around the whole buffet offering him a choice of things that he could substitute, then went and cooked him a special meal. it was almost the same size as him (he was 10 at the time) all we had to do was mention it when booking the meal and again when we were seated. however the vendors in the parks on the stands were useless, we couldn't understand why he was suffering with allergy symptoms through out the holiday, not one person mentioned to us that in the US they use milk in all their bread products! luckily we were giving him antihistamines in case any slip ups were made. if we hadn't had that with us he would have been very ill indeed. He has now been diagnosed with a wheat allergy too so any help from other travellers would be welcome

Thanks for all the info everyone - we had the most wonderful Disney filled two weeks. The whole trip was far far better than I ever imagined - I think I am hooked.

We did mention DD's allergies on the filght - and lo and behold the tannoy request for passengers to refrain from eating nuts (plus the cabin crew also took peanuts off the drinks trolley selection). The Nut free meal was ok - basically lots of fruit - but we still needed the little extra food we packed in our hand luggage.

As for Dining in Disney - spot on! Chef came tableside whenever we mentioned the Allergies - and cooked something up seperately. Best of which was at Cinderella's Royal Palace and Le Cellier (Canada). Did avoid all those with Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches though.

My dad has a very acute wheat allergy - he always takes a suitcase full of bread on holiday. If you need pointing in the right direction for gluten free food let me know. He did find it a bit of a struggle in the US.
