DS has asked for a ipod nano 16gb for christmas which is on order as we speak. The other thing he has asked for are ipod speakers. Now I'm not technical at all with these kind of things and have found this on play.com and wondered if its ok and what I need. It seems to be a bargain but I dont want to order till I've had some advice :)

i ordered this for DH for Christmas & it looks OK & also has different plugs for use abroad. It take batteries as well as using the mains electric, the box looks like it may be old stock & I havent heard what the sound is like just yet but for £18 I thought it was OK & it's compact enough to be able to take to the villa next year so we can have our own music.

Thanks Fiona. At that price I decided to order it. Packaging doesn't matter at the end of the day and it'll leave me more money to buy more presents out of the endless lists I have :D

Pretty good for the money . . nothing wrong with Altecs.
The only thing you may find is that the docking station won't actually charge the iPod battery. All the new iPod's need a USB connector for charging, and many of the older speaker systems don't have the correct leads fitted inside.
I've got two Klipsch speaker systems (wonderful full sound, and cheap on Amazon at the moment) . . but they won't charge my new iPod Touch. Not a great problem though.
