Not worried about sound set up or anything else, basically looking for a DVD player to play Blu Ray. It will only be connected to the TV, with the PS3 being region free, will it then be able to play Blu ray DVDs from USA,
My DD would like the PS3, she has a wii and a DS, so if this was suitable i could use it for both.

yeah get a ps3 , especially for the games , and free online etc..
dont get a ps3 from the uk if you want only to watch blu-ray films from the US though as the games are region free but the films are not. they are region A,B & C instead of dvd region 1,2 etc , wider margins but still unfair.
some films are region free however take a look here http://bluray.liesinc.net/
we have 3 ps3's in the house , one uk (mine) and 2 us (kids) the games works on any but dvd's and blu-ray cause problems sometime.
i dont think they market a region free blu-ray player at all....as yet.

The PS3 is a very good BluRay player, and you get the option of games, music playback from a PC, downloaded movies on demand etc.
