Does anybody go there any more? I haven't seen anything on these boards regarding Silver Springs.

We last went 13 years ago when it was just the two of us and I found it a really pleasant, relaxing day, even though it was about an hour's drive away. Now there are four of us, I was wondering if it had gone downhill and is it not worth bothering with anymore?

...likewise I've heard bits about this and would welcome more opinions from anyone who's been recently....

Had a leaflet sent to me from ther last month.
Looks very pricey when you consider all the other areas to visit for free.
Their website is www.silversprings.com if you want to check it out in more detail.
If you do go there let me know if it's worth $32.99 admission?

.. ..ouch! Hmm... I might need some convincing about this, especially as it's 90 miles away from Orlando.... we had a fantastic time at the Myakka River State Park near Sarasota at New Year, and that was about $5 to get in, and another $8 each for the boat ride.....

When we last went it was more like a very laid back version of AK without the shows and 'big' rides, just a glass-bottom boat ride but this was fantastic as the water is so clear with it being a spring. The water was about 75 degrees fahrenheit if I remember rightly and had more or less tropical fish in it. The wildlife in the spring is all natural, nothing put there the Silver Springs. It was also the area that the old Tarzan films were made in.

There was also, I think, another boat ride where there were animals on the river bank, and a land rover safari where you actually went through water with 'gators in it. There was also an amimal petting area and I do remember stroking a baby giraffe. There were also a few animal presentation shows, but they were all vey low key, and as I said previously, it was a very laid back but enjoyable day out.

We have been debating wether to visit this attraction for a couple of years now.
Have read both bad and good reports, but I must admit,I would be a bit angry if I drove 90 miles, only to find it was not up to expectations.

Would love to read some more reports here on the Dibb.

RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

This place is terrible. Certainly not worth the entrance fee(or the drive!!)

Alright its not supposed to be Disney, but its old/outdated and run down. The food is awful, and the shops worse.

This is the worst place weve ever been!!(and we had a BOGOF ticket), save your money!!!!!:confused2

we went in 2002, it is VERY laid back, and quite. When we turned up there was hardly any cars in the car park and we thought it wasn't open. We also thought we had made a terrible mistake, but we really enjoyed it. It is totally different from Disney. If you would like a chilled out day it is worth a visit, they had a good collections of bears there(main reason for us going). Don't go with Disney expectations.

And see the grizzy bear that disney artists used to draw the brother bear character from. and you can hand feed girrafes too

Went in March 2000 and February 2004. I feel it is a good place to have a relaxing day as long as your expectations, with regard to the attractions, arn`t too high. There are plenty of discount tickets around so it shouldn`t cost a fortune. I felt that I was in the "real" florida when I was on the river trips and that was worth the drive up there.

Thank you all who have replied. I think we will re-visit Silver Springs this year as I have enjoyed it before, but had heard nothing about it for a long time.

When we were travelling back from Orlando on Friday we were chatting with a very nice girl (family been to Florida loads of times) who said they'd had a lovely day at Silver Springs. Although not cheap, it was very relaxing contrast to the bustle and hype of the main parks.
She was enthusiastic enough to pique my interest. I must find out some more on the website!

Great stuff Sarah as I know it has been slated by some members, but it sounds nice and relaxing to me.
