Has anybody visited here or any other State Park within driving distance of Orlando? Was it worth doing? What did you do and see etc?
Have visited Florida at least 10 times and are now looking to do something a little different as well as the usual tourist attractions when we go in 10 days time.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

we went to Merritt Island National Reserve which is just north of Kennedy Space Centre. It's pretty desolate but the views are fabulous and there is loads of wildlife - including the hugest aligator I ever need to see......
there is also a Manatee viewing point, but unfortunatly when we were there the Manatee's had moved on to a warmer spot.
there is a drive that you follow to see all the wildlife, but there aren't any facilities as such on the island.
there are also a number of beaches, but as we were there in December we didn't spend a lot of time on the beach. Again, there are no facilities, just a car park, over the sand dunes and a beach.
...we 'did' the Myakka River State Park east of Sarasota at Xmas, and had a fine time! Beautiful, natural scenery and an excellent airboat ride.... +loads of other stuff that we didn't get round to that we will do next year (canoes, fishing, tractor/train guided tour, walks)

What about Sebastian Inlet State Park and the near by Pelican Island about 1.5hrs drive from WDW on the east coast.

And just south of Sebastian is the McLarty Treasure Museum ( small but worth a quick visit ) and to round your day off or for lunch why not stop at Disneys Vero beach resort.

All within 10 miles of each other.
Have fun what ever you do

I've been to Wekiwa countless times and it is a great day if you are looking for something on the slower pace. You can swim in the springs, canoe (you'll see loads of wild life), picnic, fish, etc..
The park is easy to get to as it is not far off of I-4 from the Longwood/434 exit. From 192 it would take you apprxomately 45-50 minutes.
I'm sure you've probably visited their website but for others who might not have here is a link:
