We have wanted to go to California for the last 2 years. We were actually all booked to go this year but changed it to Florida after a bad experience in New York last October with Mattie (Asberger syndrome!) when he was 'cooped' up in a hotel room.

I really want to book for California next Summer. The probelm is he doesn't handle staying in hotels all that well,he needs space and some freedom. In a villa he is far less stressed and if the worse case scenario (an 'episode' !) happens no one can hear him shouting/swearing etc.

If we flew into San Fran for say 4 nights then drive down the coast staying 1 or 2 nights then in Santa Monica for say 4 nights then an interanl flight to Las Vegas, this would all be maybe OK.My brainwave last night was what about staying in a villa with pool in Las Vegas for say a week instead of one of the massive noisy manic hotels.I didn't even know if there were any villas in Las Vegas.I did a search and found a few on sites I'd never heard of then found a few on VRBO which I'd be happier booking from. They are very expensive compared with Orlando though:confused:

The thing Mattie most loves is swimming and it would be a shame as I based which hotel I was going to chose before on the swimming pool and pool area,we wouldn't be able to use one of the brilliant pools but could visit Wet & Wild I guess.

My question is,is the whole point of going to las Vegas to stay in one of the lovely hotels? Or is it still worth visiting with a base outside the hotels and to do all the other things and we could visit the hotels to eat etc. as you do when you stay in a hotel anyway??

Or should I shelve the whole idea until Mattie is older ( he's 14 now)or we go on our own in a few years? And just go to Orlando again! :confused2

How about a compromise...a suite hotel. Maybe Embassy/Homewood etc. That way you'd have the extra space but still have the facilities of a hotel. I know Josh (12 AS) is more relaxed if he has another room to go and chill in alone when he needs to.
