We've decided to make reservations for the CBR in Jan/Feb next year. Can anyone tell me from their experience...

a) How big the resort is, I've heard it's large, but how long would it take to stroll from one end to the other.

b) can anyone recommend a room in an area they've stayed in

c) How crowded can we expect the resort to be in Jan/Feb.

This will be our 1st time on Disney property and we feel a bit clueless.

Thanks.

We came back a couple of weeks ago from CBR, so here is our perspective:

a) The Resort is quite large (2000 rooms) but because of the layout (round the lake) it doesn't give the impression of being too big. You can stroll round the lake (we did), took us about 25 minutes at a slow pace all the way round

b) We stayed in Jamaica, Building 45, which is really close to the bridge that goes over to Centertown (Food Courts) - check out the map. We were delighted (we faxed and asked before we went) and would suggest Jamaica or Aruba

c) Didn't go then, so can't help!

You will love it, there are quiet pools and beach areas for each Island area. We would go back (well, although this was our first time at CBD it was our 9th time to Disney, so we KNOW we will go back - but CBR is one of the top Resorts we have on the list now!)

I would imagine the resort would be quite quiet as it is a moderate ....however we went to All Stars this Jan/Feb and it was FULL and I mean Full of cheerleaders....and so were the parks. This was towards the end of our holiday. They fill up the Disney buses and all walk round the parks in huge groups with all the same matching outfits on !!

Now none of them were rude or any thing like that in fact those we spoke to were very charming. It is just their sheer numbers that was overwelming.

I would check that there are no " Pop Warner" or cheerleaders when you plan to go staying at your hotel....but like I say they do affect the park numbers quite a bit.

we stayed at CBR a few years ago - I think it's a really lovely resort. Yes it's big, but it doesn't feel huge and impersonal at all. We were in Barbados, room 1313 (easy to remember that one) - it was a corner room over looking the pool and was lovely. It was a short walk from teh bus stop or car park, and a slightly longer walk to the food court area, but I would say no more than 10 minutes, possibly less. Its a nice walk along the edge of a lake, so it's no hardship.
We had a coffeemaker in the room which we didn't have at AKL, i don't know if that's standard but it was quite nice to be able to make our own coffee rather than walk to the food court. (You have to buy the coffee, we picked up some in the supermarket)

Hi buzzlightbeer ,

CBR looks like a beautiful moderate resort. I have not stayed there, but our neighbors went last summer and loved it. They were in the Trinidad building. While the resort is large (2000+ rooms) they said it was a lovely walk around the lake, and there are many bus stops within CBR. I suggest reading over the first few pages of Safetymom's CBR Resort Frequently Asked Questions thread on the DIS boards. Here is a link to it.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=568915

She is a big CBR fan, she lives near WDW and visits CBR frequently. All the info you would ever want is on that thread.

Hope you have a great time!

BevS97 ~~ you can ask for a free coffee maker to be delivered to your room at any Disney resort (except the Grand Floridian). We always ask when we check in, and Mousekeeping brings it up within 30 minutes. At the deluxe resorts coffee packets are also delivered free.

Thanks for that link Disney Girl (very useful) and thanks to others who have answered my questions, you've certainly put my mind at rest. I've requested a water view room at Jamaica and now can't wait until late Jan 2005

Buzzlightbeer - we will be visiting CBR this summer. If there is anything you want me to find out while I'm there then please just ask! Be sure to visit Safetymom's CBR FAQ thread (link in ADisneygirl message above).

I've heard a rumour about WDW hotels not taking fax requests any more but are happy to take 'phone calls within 4 days of your arrival date for room requests and requirements.

We will be requesting a room in Jamaica or Aruba. There are loads of links to pictures and maps on various websites. I just love looking at them!

We were at the CBR in Feb this year. It seems as though the cheerleaders mainly stay at pop, movies, sports etc resorts. I didnt see any around CBR and it was pretty quiet. The only noisey place was the main pool and the restaurant area in the evening.
I cant wait to go back to CBR in November. :D

Hi

We stayed in CBR in 1997, Easter and although the parks were crowded the resort always semed very quiet.

We stayed in Martinique 2152, a quiet corner room near the bus stop.

It is a beautiful resort.

Hope you enjoy it.

a) How big the resort is, I've heard it's large, but how long would it take to stroll from one end to the other.

As the others have said it is big but wouldn't take too long to walk around the lake and it is very pleasant to walk around too.

b) can anyone recommend a room in an area they've stayed in

We stayed in Trinidad North - just a short stroll from Old port Royale - handy for refilling coffee any time of day. The room had a lake view we could see the Epcot fireworks from the window.

c) How crowded can we expect the resort to be in Jan/Feb.

It was fairly busy but not too crowded. There were quite a few cheerleader conventions but the parks were quiet and the longest we queued for rides was around 15 mins.

The weather was really nice - like a UK Summer day and cooler in the evening so you will need a light jacket or fleece.

Hope you have a lovely time - I'd love to go back there.:D :D

Buzzlightbeer, you may already know this but thought I'd mention it anyway!

Some rooms have a slightly higher charge - the villages nearest to Old Port Royale and rooms with a water view. Some people have said that it is not worth paying more for a room with a water view because you will not see the water most of the time from your room anyway because of the design of the buildings. Rooms are accessed from external "corridors" rather than internal ones, so unless you are standing by the window, you will not see the water!
