Booked for the family (me, wifey and two boys (aged 8 and 5) to go to Florida next September (2005). We will be staying at the Comfort Inn, Universal Studios area. Is this a good choice i.e. with regards to location. I have a gut feeling I have booked a hotel way way out of site and it will cost a fortune and alot of hassle withe kids getting about. Advice will be very much appreciated.

OK, I take it nobody has stayed there. But is the location ok? Or too far out? Will it be a problem with an eight and five year old.
Your help is appreciated!

Hi!!
Have you checked a map of where your hotel is exactly? I am NOT an experienced dibber - the only Comfort Inn I know is Lake Buena Vista. ?
Who have you booked with?

You can download map from Expedia. It is 6101(or something like that!) Sand Lake Rd. My hotel is 7600 Sand Lake Rd and very convenient for I Ride trolley. Think you better check a map out.
Good Luck!!

if it's near Universal then it will be pretty far from Disney (about 20 minutes in the car) but it's a good area for restaurants and shops etc. If you are hiring a car then I think it iwll be fine, but personally I wouldn't want to be up that way and relying on public transport (although I know many people do it)

I do not really want to change my hotel (due to cost!). This is the description of the location.
Near Famous International Drive, the Comfort Inn is Located At
the Intersection of Universal Boulevard and Sand Lake Road.
Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure Are Just Minutes
Away and the Orlando/Orange County Convention Center is Within
2 Miles of the Hotel.
Looking on multimap, it looks pretty close to I Drive (tell me if it is not!). Could I rely on Public Transport to get about on, if not, how much are taxi fares (I.e. 10 mile journey) in Orlando?
Cheers

I looked into staying in this hotel for a few nights as it was so close to US. It is described as being in walking distance to US. I think that would mean about a 15min walk once you get into through the gates. You would also have to cross the main road, which is very busy. You get free breakfast with this hotel
Here is a link to the hotel information.

If the above deosn't work then it is the third one hotel on the this list.

Another great site for hotel info is this one.

I think I put in the right hotel, there are a few. Do not pay to much attention to the posts in trip advisor as there have been good reports on the US boards.

Its behind the McD's on Sand Lake Rd. You couldn't walk to US/IOA from it. We stayed at the Days Inn Lakeside just a bit further up. Its handy to walk to I-Drive 2 min away and get the I-Ride. They also do shuttles from that hotel as they have a big LCD display outside advertising it. Its also near many places to eat such as Checkers, Perkins, Golden Corral, McD's, Perkins, I-Hop, Denney's, Fridays Front Row Grill. Also a Mobil petrol station is next door and a BP accross the rd with 24hr shops.
Hope this helps.
Universal Blvd isn't behind the McDonalds, it's the other way up SandLake road - I wonder if there are a few comfort inns in that area? We stayed at the Clarion which is on Universal Blvd and that's owned by the same group I think

Silly me your right I think all my memory has gone back to front. I am thinking of the Quality at the other side of I-Drive not the Comfort on the other side. But it is still within walking distance of all the above, plus you have popeyes chicken and Fish bones restaurant on that side.
