Shark Attacks Kentucky Boy In Florida

POSTED: 8:42 am EDT June 11, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. -- An 8-year-old Kentucky boy is hospitalized in good condition after a scary brush with a shark in Florida.

Police say the boy from Kentucky was swimming with his father behind a condominium in Daytona Beach Shores Thursday when he was bitten by a 4-foot shark.

The boy was in water about 4 feet deep. The boy's father said he saw the creature swim between them shortly before the attack on Thursday.

The boy's left hand and part of his left arm were inside the shark's mouth, and he suffered cuts on both hands.

Daytona Beach Shores is just south of Daytona Beach.

Good that he's okay but very scary!

We were last out in 01, the summer of the shark with several attacks up and down the atlantic coast. Another good reason to stay out of the sea, BB and TL here we come!! (and the villa pool).
What a bummer that would be...going all the way to Fla. to be bitten by a rather large Nobby Clark! No thanks!

Stick to the pool for swimming - no sharks and it tastes better !

We have just returned from a two week holiday in Orlando and spent 2 days at Daytona Beach. Lovely water (bit cooler than the west side though) and no problem with sharks. Glad I didn't read this before we went.

Geez some people just amaze me
Scared of going into water where there is a slight chance of a shark attack, 1 in 10,000,000,000, but are quite happy to get into a car where the chance of death/injury is far more likely:confused:

It's not anything that would stop me from going or getting in the water but it is something to be aware of. Considering a lot of the Florida attacks occur in 4' of water and the kiddies might be wading about it is something to keep an eye out for.

I grew up going to Daytona/New Smyrna Beach on Saturday's and still say DUDE at least 2-3 times a day! :D
