Just wandering how safe people regard POR is? DS will be 16 and dd will be 13 and I know they will want to go off to the games arcade and maybe the pool sometime, and it would be something to do when lo has a sleep. They will stick together and will have phones and time limits. But if people on here don't think its safe then they won't do it.
Honest opinion please!

I should think that if they are staying within resort precincts they will be perfectly safe. Don't forget Disney have security patrolling all over the place - they aren't always in uniforms. All CMs are approachable if there are any problems or emergencies. If you set time limits, contact arrangements then all should be fine. Just remember that at pools, attendants are not there at certain times of the day.

:wavey:we stayed there last year and there was nothing that i seen that would make me think it was unsafe. My kids then were 13 and 7 so they were a bit younger than yours and i let them go from the pool back to the room by themselves. I know its not the same as going to the arcade etc but i would say they would be safe. Also it might depend on where your room is, distance wise from arcade etc.
I would let my kids at that age go about themselves:grin:

I'd say nothing to worry about with "strangers" if they have been well schooled here, more to not change their common sense when on holiday and get too close to the river. Just remind DS trying to claim to be over age to get alchohol in the US is more serious than doing it here! (Not suggesting anything by that, but I'd started having the odd pint at that age, in fact way before it!).

I'd be inclined to say yes, give them their freedom, within the resort is probably as safe as they can be, but there can be danger anywhere. While resorts are patrolled by security and CMs are around to help with any problems they are not everywhere.
It did occur to me that the proximity to the river at POR could be a danger for kids, we saw a little one nearly come a cropper chasing ducks down the bank and slipping on the grass, so it only takes seconds for an accident to happen. Thankfully on that occasion parents were right behind her, but we saw plenty of quite young kids alone around the resort.
It's always a problem with older kids as to how much freedon to allow, your call really, as you know them best and how sensible and trustworthy they can be. After all you want to be able to relax too and not be worrying where they are. Subject to them agreeing to some rules about where they can go and when to return I would say yes, let them go.

At 16 and 13 they should be perfectly safe.
The first time they go to the arcade, set them a time limit if you are worried.
We used to let our two sons do this at CBR. We also let them go to the food court by themselves. As long as they are sensible and stick together they should be fine.

Hi there
It shouldn't be a problem, if you can trust them here in the UK they will be fine there.
DS was 11 last year and made friends with a lad who lived just a few miles from us here in the UK (how weird is that?). They both went to "call" for each other, we were staying in Magnolia Terrace and his friend in Alligator Bayou.
If we went to the River roost for a :drinkbeer DH and I were quite happy for him to go to the arcade or food court without a problem.
He is very sensible though and would have no problem in approaching a CM for help if needed.
As we are going back there again this year, we won't have any worries should he want to have a bit of time to himself.
Relax & enjoy :spin:

I would think at that age that they will be perfectly safe. It's a lovely quiet resort and they will really enjoy the responsibility of being allowed to go by themselves. Having the phones etc will set your mind at rest and you can enjoy your quiet time too! Hope you have a great trip.
We stayed their at xmas and our elder 2 went off to the pool, shop and drinks station on their own and we didn't worry once
