Hi all.

Looking at going to either St Petes or Clearwater for a couple of days during our three week trip next August.

There will be 4 of us - myself, DH, DD (10) and DS (9) and I was wondering which would be the best place to go.

I have looked at the Tradewinds Grand resort which looks goods for families and the Clearwater Hilton and would appreciate any advice as to which location you would recommend.

Thanks

We stayed at Clearwater (Hilton) - lovely. We visited St Petes but thought clearwater the better choice (mega relaxing!)

We prefer St. Pete`s, we love it there. That is just my opinion though and I always say each to their own!!

I have been to both and prefer St. Pete. To me, the Clearwater Beach area is more congested and crowded. St. Pete Beach is quieter more relaxing and still has a variety of things to do. We usually stay at the Sirata on St. Pete Beach. There are usually lots of families there.

I've stayed at Tradewinds 3 times and to me it is 'ok' for the price. The resort can differ quite a bit when it comes to the rooms. They do have great beach areas and some fun things for the kids. Make sure that you get a 'deal' on the room and you'll be just fine. I just felt they were a little high for what you get.

Now if I had my choice, I'd be staying here...

This year we stayed for four nights at Indian Rocks which is a few miles south of Clearwater. The beaches were quiet and there were plenty of good restaurants to eat in. After two weeks round Disney and the other parks it was a great place to relax and do nothing!

We really like the Tradewinds Island Grand. Went there for the third week of our honeymoon in 2001 and are going back next year for the third week of our 4th wedding anniversary trip to Florida!!! Luckily we got upgraded from a deluxe room to Gulf view suite in 2001 and it was really lovely looking out over the Gulf from the lounge/kitchen. May even splash out next year for the Gulf suite dailing that we will go for a Gulf view room. The resort itself is in lovely grounds right on the beach with 4 swimming pools (one adult only and one mainly for kids) and has a great little restaurant/bar called the Flying Bridge which overlooks one of the pools and the beach. There is also an onsite Pizza Hut for take away pizza yum yum!!!!!!! The main restaurant also does a good buffet breakfast. TIG is also very well placed for exploring the Gulf Coast and a short drive soouth will take you over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge to Bradenton where there is the Ellenton Outlet Mall.

Jen, we were having the same dilema as you but have decided on Clearwater. For various reasons, one of them being, most of our party want to do the Clearwater screamer. :D

We may see you there, we are going to Orlando on the 13th August. :D
