Am I the only one that thinks Disney has a cheek charging for parking given the money they've already charged
I don't remember any UK parks charging for parking?

I think Alton Towers does....unless you are staying in their hotel

Alton Towers never used to and I think they've got a cheek.
I don't really mind paying for the parking at Disney but I would prefer if you could buy x no of days in advance and have like a permit. I like to be organised and not have to ferret around for the money every day.
I think if they did a permit system it would also make some of the queues go quicker in the summer etc

Nearly everywhere you go in America you'll pay for parking. Sporting events, theme parks, etc.. Personally, I think it should be included in the ticket price.

Certainly in 2002 at Alton Towers annual pass holders were also free but not all the staff were aware of this and on one occasion it took some minutes of discussion before another staff member confirmed we were right. I also think that parking should be part of the ticket or could be paid in advance trying to find the right cash each day is a pain.

Sheffield Arena charge £5 for parking, on top of the price of tickets one has already paid for.
I think this is a disgrace, given the amount of revenue they receive from the sale of the tickets anyway.

Disney don't charge their on-site guests or APH's for parking.

I don't think it's a cheek at all. It costs lots of money to build the car parks, maintain them, employ staff to marshall cars when they are parking, etc, etc. Why should all that be free for people who want to use the facility? What would be more of a cheek would be asking other guests who don't use the car parks to subsidise the cost of car parking even though they don't want to use it.
It might be worth seeing if buying one annual pass for your party is sensible as it offers 'free' parking at all the Disney parks.
Regards
Rob
When deciding on which is the best pass to purchase I always consider the parking charge. Remember that only one person needs to be an AP holder to benefit from free parking.

Totally agree with the above comments.
Don't forget that the waterpark's carparks and DTD are free, so its not all bad.

I expect the parking is done as a totally seperate expenditure thing with upkeep and wages for attendants. Probably makes life a lot easier managementwise to do the charge as a seperate item as you enter the car park than to include the charge in ticket prices.

Agree with FLGirl - it should be part of the entrance fee! IMHO I think it is a bit of a cheek to charge, but how else will they recover some of their running costs - think of the wages, overheads etc etc.

You are so practical, Zoe!!!
Like stated above, an additional excuse for staying on-site or being an AP Holder (why do we do both? Oh yes, we LOVE Disney!!!)

What about those guests that use hotel shuttles or buses...why should they have their ticket increased to pay for the parking of motor vehicles in the car park....the cost goes to the staff, courtesy buses etc....I am happy to pay!...accept I don't as I am an annual passholder! lol

I would be happy to pay aswell, if I never paid.:wink
Also most tickets include free Disney Transport, but we never use it since we drive and are therefore subsidizing those who do use this 'free' Disney Transport.
Good idea about buying a AP for just one member of the party though.

I thought is was staying at a Disney hotel entitled you to use Disney transport, and not the purchase of any particular entry ticket.

No Rob I think you're mistaken on this one.
I know that the 10-Day World Ticket, 7-Day Hopper Plus Ticket and 5-Day Hopper Plus Ticket, all definitely include use of the WDW transportation system. I can't be certain about other types of tickets but I would imagine they all include use of Disney Transport.

OK, thanks. I might be having a dumb moment (it is early in the day!), but what is the point of being able to use the Disney Transportation system if you're not staying at a Disney hotel? The whole system seems geared to getting guests from their hotels to the various parks and attractions. If you drive to WDW from your off-site hotel/villa is there any benefit from eing able to use Disney Transport?

No Rob, you're not having a dumb moment, that is exactly my point, if you're driving it would be unlikely that you would use Disney Transport. However you have paid for it with your ticket and are therefore subsidizing those who don't drive since you have to pay a additional car parking fee.
Of course if you got a bus to Disney from off-site you might use the transport to Park Hop or visit a hotel to eat etc., but then you wouldn't have paid for parking.
IMO car parking should be included in the transport system as what ever method you use to get to the Parks it costs Disney but they benefit from park entrance etc..

I hadn't thought of this scenario as I've always used a car to navigate around WDW. Even when I've stayed on-site I've preferred to use a car (with the exception of going to the MK) as I found the buses to be too slow and inflexible.

Ang,
I think Disney buses run from the hotels and parks to DTD but only go back to the hotels. The reasoning behind this is to stop people parking at DTD then getting a bus straight to the park. If you did park at DTD then you could use the bus to go to a hotel for say a PS at one of the restaurants and if you then wanted to carry on to a park you would then use the hotel bus, and to finally get back to the car use a bus from the park to DTD.

I guess you could, but for the sake of saving a few dollars you would have to spend hours of your time on a bus driving around WDW.

Having been a supplier to WDW for over 10 years and having a bit of inside information it is these 'incidental' things that have always bothered me about Disney. Even though it's a 'magical place' the bottom line is that it is a business. The reality is they don't have to or need to charge for parking. It's simply another way for WDW to make money. They do it because they can.
I'm not one to complain about stuff like parking charges but considerig the ticket price, and knowing the profit margins that are made (and the money that is wasted in buying/purchasing) it makes it hard to swallow having to pay it.
Universal, in the beginning, were also the same way but quickly turned around and made parking free after a certain hour in the day. Which allowed for locals to 'want' to use the City Walk area. The Universal parks are much more geared in local appeal and are constantly doing promotions to residents. Disney has never been about that.
ok ok...I've begun to ramble.....
Providing parking spaces/staff/transport/security/maintenance costs money.
I think it would be unfair if this was hidden in the park ticket price because some people would be paying for something they never use.
Maybe child strollers should be free and the cost added to the ticket price?
We have a choice - if we want to take our car and park it - we pay up ! I havent given it a second thought until now.

I expect to pay for parking no matter where I am.
I feel better in the knowledge that if I can't find my car or I have a problem someone will be there to help.

I'm just glad the days of 'E' tickets are gone!! lol
Believe me, I don't mind paying at all. It happens everywhere. I do think that it would be nice if they would offer a parking permit for an alloted amount of days for the ones that have chosen to stay off property. It just adds up after a while.

Understanding your point but also seeing how other might view it, every park (not just WDW) could provide strollers to each child ticket purchased.
Not every family is as prepared as what forum users are. Some families are blindsided with the 'extra's'. Personally I don't see how families do it.
I can say that since I've moved here and I've started to take people over to guide them through the parks I've been able to regain 'the magic' that is Disney after growing up with it for 34 years. You sort of become numb to it and it really isn't that big of a deal. BUT! I'm now counting the days until my next visit. It is a great place!!

This seems to be a "HOT" topic, last time I went I don't recall paying for parking at all... is it a new thing ?? or, as I suspect, as my age increases my brain fails by an equal amount :)
How much is the parking charge per day ?? do all the Disney parks charge ?
Cheers, Matt
Hi
Silly question from a new member - what is an Annual Pass, how much is it and where do you get them from.
All my other questions so far have been answered after reading most of this really good site.
Going for 1st time 13/8 - after booking realised flying Friday 13th!
Thanks in advance for help
DD&B
I know you get to park free when staying on site, but does anyone if DVC members get free parking??
