Before moving I use to go every year and we always had a great time. Portions of the streets are fogged and employees roam the streets dressed in gory makeup and costume. Some even sneak up on you and scare you to death!
The actual haunted houses are done really well. Obviously everything looks authentic since it is done by the studios. As far as the scare factor it will depend on the person. I don't dread that sort of thing so I can go through and get a good scare/laugh and enjoy it where others find it absolutely horrifying. Sort of like riding a rollercoaster. Some love it and some hate it.
If you go, look for special discounts from 2 litre soda bottles or typically from Burger King. They generally offer $10 off admission.
Hope that helps!!
.......STARTS CHAINSAW..........I'm coming to get you.....mwahahahahahahah
I went with DW in Sept 2002 and she was scared - I thought it was great - so we won't be going again which is a shame. The park is completely different with staff dressed up complete with working chainsaws and very lifelike injuries. There was also an electric chair and other torture instruments near the entrance.
I guess it depends on the person.

Yeah, its VERY scary!! Fun as well, but not for the faint hearted! All the haunted houses have "live" actors inside who are brilliant and pop out from floors, ceilings, walls...you just dont know! I nearly died when walking past a bed and a ice cold hand shot out and grabbed my ankle!!
Its totally wicked cool, but only if you are not easily spooked!! Not recommended for small children (obviously!!)....they can have fun at Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party at MK!!

It's brilliant. I don't like horror movies at all, but I loved HHN and will be going back this year.
I don't think the scareactors are allowed to touch you, so being grabbed by the ankles  is pretty unusual.
I hope.
I did scream a lot, though. :D
Your scaredy friend could avoid the mazes - the really scary bits - and soak up the atmosphere and ride the rides. It's true the chainsaw people do jump out at you and you get folllowed by spooky people, but it's just so funny. They don't haunt the shops, rides and rest rooms (thank goodness!).
Also, there's nothing like riding Hulk in the dark. Woo hoo!

We went last year and I just asked my husband if he was scared during HHN.
His reply was ' I am a 37yr old paratrooper who fought in Iraq - and compared to that experience HHN was definitely scarier'!!!!
Saying that though, we would say DEFINITELY GO - the atmosphere is terrific. Our 8year old was totally unfazed by the scareactors and took it in his stride. My DH put on a brave face and I hid between the two of them, (or tried to). I am a total scaredy-cat and jumped out of my skin so many times after visiting 3 houses, I didn't do any more and took refuge in the gift shops or around the vendor carts letting my DH/DS enjoy themselves.
The theming is great and even if you don't go inside any of the houses, I would say you will still enjoy it all. The Bill & Ted show was good and there are lots of spooky characters walking around and other entertainment, plus the rides in the dark.
I'd recommend HHN, and if you do get scare easy, make sure you go with a few other folks and stick in the middle of the group!!

I am going on my own with my two DS's aged 5 and 8 and I am putting them in the Portofino's Kids club so I can go to HHN on my own!
Hopefully it will be really scary as I am on my own as I love a good scare......nothing seems scary any more......

I'm the complete opposite I LOVE a good horror movie but I hated HHN. I guess it depends on the person.
You can read my mum's trip report to get a better idea of what its like: http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11425
Hi there,
I took my 13 year old cousin to the Horror Nights last year in IOA
Initially I had to talk (force) the kid to go thinking that the event would all be in good fun.
Once in the park I could believe the sheer amount of actors/monsters around the parks. There seemed to be people jumping out of every possible hiding place which went on from entering the park and carried on right around to the end. Also the make-up and clothing on these people was very professional and will scare small children or others who scare easily.
Having said that my cousin really enjoyed the event and it was me who made her leave the park early as my nerves were in bits. :D
Needless to say if I go to Orlando again around that time of the year I am going to Disney!!!

We went in oct 2002 and i have never been so scared in my life, as we came out of one of the houses a man chased me with a chainsaw- my boyfriend said he has never seen me run so fast.
I am so glad we are not going this time. I think my boyfriends disappointed as he loves it.
I think you have to try it.

We went in 2001, it was the BEST night of my life!!! The atmosphere was electric. DW & youngest DD (then 11) were scared out of their wits!! (luckily they both took clean underwear LoL). The walkthrough houses were brilliant, people were dressed up chasing you around with chainsaws - apparently they have to audition for the parts!! They are not allowed to hold onto you....however in the houses they can "grab" an arm or ankle but they must let go immediately - it's in their book of rules as I was talking to a scare member. They decide who they want to touch & who they don't - if a kid is scared then they'll leave him/her alone. They usually pick on the unsuspecting adult (i.e. DW). IMHO it's too much for under 10's, we had to give a house the miss as DD was in tears - too frightened!!
