hey WC'ers!

Phew! Having a bad planning day today! Not getting anywhere fast!

Basically have found a cheap hire car company from LAX that will only charge me $75 for being 24 rather than the charge of $25 per day, only need a credit card to reserve the booking then pay when we pick up, the total amount was $310 = £190 for 15 nights, then i realised this does not include insurance! The company btw is http://www.atwest-rentacar.com/

Have looked about and found few sites which sell insurance but i understand none of it and am totally confused now! Do people know what SLI is? And if i need it? cry cry! x

I think *somebody feel free to correct me if im wrong* but you are much better off booking with a UK based site because you are certain that all the insurances you need are included because with Americans they do not need it when they hire a car over there, their own insurance covers it.
Have you looked on www.usrantacar.co.uk? thats who we booked ours with although im 25 now but I do remember they have a option for under 25's :)

Hey Sarah

Having a nightmare with all this, i have looked but it's like £410! I just can't afford that, im researching it all now but i am so fed up of it all tbh! :nonono:

I was booking with VA but app they don't include the $25 daily surcharge.

I am reading this on MSE and it explains it abit better:

I just don't know what to do now! Annoying thing is DBF will be 3 months off 25!!! arrrgghh! x

usrentacar's young driver package is for Florida only. I just ended up paying that $25 a day last year (dollar through usrentacar) pricey yes but we did the sums and it was worth it to us for the experience (driving in California is amazing, apart from the LA freeways *lol*) and the fact that we'd have to get around somehow anyway and by car was the most convenient and suitable for us and our trip :)
I do feel your pain, i'll be 25 before our next trip but I do remember the frustration of trying to find a half decent deal (and ironically have had a similar search this year with the one way drop fee between NY and MA!)

Alamo have the young driver pack all over USA, but its going to be £400ish for a 4 door compact.

uscarhire can quote it online for anywhere in usa.

You wouldn't get a car for £190 for 16 days if you were over 25, let alone under 25.

Just have to pay the extra I'm afraid, and don't leave it till you get there, it will end up costing you a lot more than booking in the uk

If it helps, we paid £460 with Dollar for an intermediate car for 14 nights, a compact or economy would have been less but we wanted to put all our luggage in the boot. I know it sounds a lot but it worked out at about £30 a day and fuel is cheap, I did a lot of research and couldn't find a way to do it cheaper that included all the insurances.
