I think it's now $15 per night self parking, $20 per night for valet parking

RPR is $15 so expect HRH to be the same. :nonono: Not sure if that is based on per day or nights stayed.
We are staying to nights will we have to pay $30 or $45?

I think that is terrible in fact i'm not going to bother with a car now. We can walk to Universal and can get a taxi to the malls instead. I live in Paphos in Cyprus and there is never a charge for parking your car in the hotel car park especially if you are a resident . I'm off to cancel my car hire.

If you cancel your car Virgin will charge you an admin fee. I think it's £25. :nonono::nonono:

Without a car, you will finish up paying far more than the cost of parking in taxis and in precious time. You could, in theory, park free at any shopping plaza or outlet at the eastern end of International Drive, which is nearby, although security will clamp your vehicle if they suspect you aren't a bona fide shopper.
But it's too far to walk, the roads are wide and busy and not built for pedestrians to cross, and even once you have reached the gates of Universal, you still have a very long walk.

Any other suggestions we are only having the car so that we can travel down to our second hotel. The car will be standing still for 5 days while i'm being charged. Not cool :nonono:
Hi - we stayed at the RPR a couple of weeks ago and yep it is defiantely $15.00 per night for normal parking which we thought was quite steep considering none of the universal hotels are cheap to stay in!:)
Have you booked the hotel through virgin? I know the RPR through Virgin included the car parking fee (not sure about HRH as we have never stayed there). Worth checking before you cancel anything.

Can you just hire the car for part of your holiday or does that incur the same charge?
Fairly sure you can't leave your car overnight in the main Universal parking lot anyway so that's not an option.

ONly RPR has free parking with VH

Yes - we're disappointed about the parking fee.
We're staying on site at RPR for 1 night and at Disney POR for 21 nights.
The great perk of disney is the free DDP and the Free parking.
Shame that Universal don't also offer this - still its worth it to get the FOLP.

Nobody does free parking.
You can look at it in two ways.
The car park is land, it costs to buy and maintain. It could be used to put more rooms onto the hotel.
Universal choose to let those taking a car and using the car park pay for the privilege.
Many people choose not to take the car, they don't pay.
That seems fair to me.
Disney do charge for parking, it's built into the cost, everyone pays whether using it or not.
We're staying one night and will pay the $15. Two days parking at the garages would cost us $24 so it's not a bad deal.

Rather than cancel the car, can't you just cancel the insurance.
I'm not sure if they will do this now you have paid for it, it's just a suggestion.
Then just not take the car on arrival (which many do) and book a separate one for when you want to transfer.

I've never had to pay, no idea why not though :wiggle:

Its not paying its finding somewhere to damn well park thats the problem, especially if you actually go out in the car. I bit the bullet last trip and just paid for valet.

In my case Disney is more expensive than Universal for comparable resorts, though the room at HRH is better.
Do you still have to pay hotel parking if you are using an AP?

$249 + tax.

Put it one way the cost of a room and FOTL was about $70 more than the the price of 2 park/1 day express passes for 4 in July.

Unfortunately......yes

Yes we have annual passes and always had to pay also:(
Look at it this way - having a car at HRH will cost you $15 per night to park it there HOWEVER if you use the car to go off-site to eat in the evening you will have a wider range of restaurants, and will save more than $15 on a comparable meal on-site. Stick with the car, eat off-site.
:wavey:
We are staying at the Enclave Suites, but have a week booked at the HRH as well . We Plan to leave the car at the Enclave and use a Taxi . Not worth paying $105 for parking :erm:

Yes it cost more this way but they extra cost for the fotl passes is worth it in our opinion particularly in July.
You can't compare the costs of hotel parking to parking at other hotels around the world. No you may not pay in Cyprus, greece etc but you would pay at a London hotel or Brighton for example. Its all about market forces. If Universal's hotel car parks were empty they would use the land for something else which they would charge for or simply the price of staying at the hotel would rise. The unfortunate fact is its a business and people will pay the $15 per night.
I would see if its worth cancelling the car hire altogether (kick up a fuss they may only charge you £25) and try and rebook the car through someone else as I found Virgin to be expensive for car hire. If you drop the car hire for the days you are at Universal it could work out cheaper, including the charge for the change, than your original car hire cost.

CJay would have been paying for 5 nights parking at Universal not one which is why he wanted to cancel his hire car

Do they deliver hire cars to the hotel?

I don't know if they deliver but you can arrange for certain car hire companies to pick you up and take you to the depot to collect your hire car

That may be an option for us next year then.
There is a Hertz rental desk in the Hard Rock Hotel. We also object to paying for parking (my ONLY criticism of the hotel;)), so we are not having a car whilst we are there - we are spending 7 nights at HRH and planning on hiring a car for one day to visit relatives and that is it!!:d:

The question is do the universal hotels have feedback forms for you to fill in?
If so why not fill them in and say parking should be free!
If enough people do it they might drop it or even reduce it.
