Hey guys...

From replies to my previous thread and after looking back over past threads I have come across conflicting info and am v v befuddled!

Do I need a step up or a step down currency converter to make my 70w UK hair straightners work in the USA?

Am intending on buying this weekend, so if anyone could recommend a place (as maplins looks to be fairly expensive) I'd be grateful...oh what we do in the name of straight hair!

No if you want your 240V stuff to work on 110V(USA) correctly then its a step-up transformer you need

Stepping up the US 110V to UK 240V

check your straightners, they may have a switch on them allowing you to use them at 110v - if they do then you just need a travel plug, if not you need the transformer

My UK ones would not work with a converter. So I brought a pair in Walmart for $15 they were not as good as my UK ones but they were ok for the price. With the humidity and all the wet rides at the parks mine doesnt stay straight for long anyway. DH~Baz says buy a baseball hat!!

Am I missing somthing here?
Like a UK hairdryer that is not 110 vaults would work in US with an adapter plug but really sluggish. but surely hair straighteners would just take longer to heat up as the thermostat would still be the same.

If you bought them in US and used them in UK then yes Bang!! they would go.. but in US they would heat up in like twice the time wouldnt they?

Straightners would work on 110V but not correctly....If the increased current doesnt blown any internal fuses then they should work but not to the standard it was designed for..
