I found it disappointing, I thought that the raceway was great but the town and beach were a bit past there sell by date.

That's only my view though some may love it, I'm just biased towards the Gulf Coast.

Daytona itself is a tad quiet when there are no events on at the race track.
Russy,I notice that you are going in Oct.
Check to see if the October Bikefest is on whilst you are there [American Chopper and all that],that might be well worth seeing. It normally lasts for about 3 days.
As for the race track, its awesome.
Please note ,if you are not interested in having a look round the Daytona USA exhibition, which I personally think is great, then you can actually go into the race track for free. You can also do the track tour, which takes you all round the infield, track bankings, pit lane, pits and photo opportunity stood on Victory Lane.
You can do this tour seperate from the Daytona USA and it costs approx $7 each.
Tour lasts about 30 mins.

The Daytona USA exhibition has cars ,trophies include both the Daytona 500 trophy and the Winston Cup trophy. There are also film shows and hands on interactive exhibitions as well.

All in all, its a good half day out......................especially if you are a petrolhead like myself.

Hope this helps.

Russy, the weekly bike gathering is at Old Town on the 192.
Its a midweek thing and Im not sure how well attended it is.
The bikers use one of the bars for a get together.

Have you been to the Sat Night Cruise at Old Town?
Fantastic stuff.Around 2/300 classic yanks all on display, loads of people milling around, live entertainment etc.
I never miss a trip to take a look at all that lovely tin.

Have to agree about the width of the track at Daytona.Hard to believe that they go round those bankings,3 abreast and at over 200 mph.
Saw some IROC Pontiacs practising there in 2000.Only about 6 of them, but what a sight to see them going flat out, only about 2 feet apart.

If you are interested in some short oval stock car racing ,take a look here www.chasinracin.com

I go to the tracks everytime I visit Florida as stock cars is my sport.

Always happy to help
