Thanks. Opens up no end of possibilities. Would this work for electric chairs? Just thinking of a certain wealthy relative!! Kidding, really!! or maybe not?
Thanks that is really helpful. I can now convince hubby that it will be worth while to spend even more money on Christmas Decs.

Apparently this will only run about 3 strings of lights :(

Yes, as a standard the strings of lights are only to be connected in three's. I found this out the hard way. Strung a two story house with the icicle lights. Half turned on half didn't. Boy did it look great after it was sorted out!!

No, I mean the VA rating (300) is only enough for a couple of sets - screwfix do a 3kVA version that's enough for 17/18 sets (so my DB reliably informs me) but it costs £50+

Understanding that it is also good to know that you can only string 3 sets of lights together regardless of UK or US conversion. I believe they do this for safety issues with overloading, etc..

If you really want to run a lot of US Xmas lights you can hire a 110v isolating transformer from any good tool hire shop that will do the job.
Fine if u want to run 20 sets but then u need the plugs which are industrial type, special 3pin which then increases the cost. If u are just looking to run a couple of sets this is ideal with no plug changing. This was only a suggestion sorry for mentioning it.
Happy Xmas Pops
