If we wanted to holiday at the Beach Club Villas 1-2 weeks per year in a 1 bed villa, then how many points should we be looking at? I was thinking of around 280. That would mean 1 year we would do 1 week and bank some points, the following year do two weeks, then 1 again if you see what I mean! The years we do 1 week at BCV, then we would do another week offsite or on the Gulf Coast.

Would any DVC members care to share their points experiences? We MAY get away with the studio for a couple of years, so would be able to do 2+ weeks until the kids need their own bedroom. DH says it makes more sense to buy more points to start with than to add on at a later date? Is that correct?

Any thoughts welcome.

Hiya, I agree with DH, you may as well buy all the points you think you want upfront as you'll only add on otherwise as most of us do and they don't come down in price!

We own at BCV, we originally bought 165 points which was based on us getting 2 weeks, 2 years out of every 3 in a studio, but then added on 100 points making a total of 265. This gives us enough for either 17 nights a year in a studio or 12 nights in a 1 bed, 2 years out of every 3.

By going Sunday to Friday you save huge amounts of points as Fri and Sat nights are very expensive points wise. Eg. Next August is costing us 386 points for 12 nights in a one bed, whereas 14 nights would cost 504, so a huge difference imho.

All our pricing is based on Dream season which cover the August school holidays and May half term

Buy now if you can afford the annual charges. You can always rent out spare points if you have them, and as said, they don't go down. We purchased last summer at $79 in SSR for 50 years and I think it is more expensive than that now.

Align the points to teh season that you will most often travel in. We have 350 points but can only go when the kids are off school, so have to use a lot of points.

Following on from this - how much is the maintenance per point?

Thanks

It varies per resort but most are just under $4 per point. So if you have 200 points you would pay 200 x $4 = $800 per annum.
