Does anyone know if we would have to pay state tax on an I-pod?

also I was told you had to have a docking station for it, as I don't know the first thing about them, is this true??

I imagine you will have to pay the sales tax (i think it is 6%)

I think you will still find them at least £40 cheaper

Remember you wont get a UK warranty and (if it has one) the plug will be USA not UK.

And if (big if) customs nab you you will need to stump up VAT & duty :(

£138 at Target (tax included) as opposed to £178 from dabs.com in UK.

You can recharge them through USB so thats not a problem.

Wont be over £145 limit so that wont matter either.

Um are you sure thats all you will be bringing home, no souveniers or clothes/shoes?

I must say the £145 is stingy but you have to be careful about getting expensive items and then being stopped by customs.

Remember - £145 applies to everything you bought in Florida in total not just each item ;)

It up to you to prove that you bought in the UK and not vice versa...

So be careful :)

Bought a 20Gb ipod from the Apple store in the Mall at Millenia in oct.

Here's some info we found out:-
1. It is definitely an international warranty.
2. We did buy a docking station but you don't have to.
3. We were advised to buy the worldwide adapter set. You
remove the american style part and replace with the UK one.

We still saved quite a bit of money.

One thing to bear in mind is that apple will of course sell the latest generation ipod. We found some other stores were advertising at $349 dollars including a docking station, case etc, we found out that these are actually the previous generation ipod. Not much difference other than apple have made some improvements. The easiest way to tell if it's the old version is it has four buttons above the click wheel.

If you need any info drop me a PM.

Don't know much about them, but look around before buying one!!
Prices can differ quite a lot in Florida.

Just another thought!
Have you looked on Ebay???

we have but I would be dubious about buying electrical stuff on there. Plus they aren't very cheap on there.

I buy and sell on Ebay, Never had any trouble to be honest.

I always check their rating before buying anything!!
The higher the score and percentage the better they are!!

Either way, I hope you get what you want. Sure you will snap up a bargain!

I suppose so!!

Thats why I pay by PayPal, at least you have some protection then.

Good luck with what ever you decide!

Walmart have the 20gb in for around £170
Sounds like a good deal!!
Ebuyer has them on for £215

The mains adaptor has a slide on plug attachment, when this is pulled off you can plug a bog standard radio/cassette cable into it.

It will only charge through a USB2 cable or firewire. Not USB 1.

The 40gb Ipod comes with a dock. This is a sort of stand and computer connector. http://www.ipodlounge.com has a good forum

I take it that the adapter is multi voltage then??
You can buy the cradles for the other models though so I hear!!
