Hi all

Just a quick message for those wanting a day trip to the beach - I would not recomend Cocoa Beach at all. We went there last week and it was deserted. It has had alot of hurricane damage which is still evident and many shops and restaurants were closed. The beach was not very nice either.

However I would thouroughly recomend Clearwater. We went there a couple of days later and it was lovely. Beautiful while sand :) Also, pop to the countryside mall while you are there for some great shopping!

oh thats a shame! we did Cocoa Beach a few years back and loved it because it was a bit wilder and quieter than the Gulf Coast:)
Its a shame about the damage too:(

I knowm from previous threads many people aren't keen on Cocoa Beach:confused2

We really like it there and go on every holiday:light: Maybe it depends which part of the beach you go on? It is pretty deserted when we go--that's why we love it:wink

I too love Cocoa Beach

its the fact that its rough I love it, and yes you can always find a ickle quiet spot,

I even like when the wind suddenly gets up and you get pebbledashed whilst trying to escape, painful but fun:D

Have to admit, the beach and surrounding areas were not much to write home about (my opinion only) but we go every year to the kids haven - Ron Jons Surf shop - open 24 hours with a cafe on site - great for surfer dood goodies, and always a bargin or two to be had.

We arrived in Cocoa beach at 9.30 pm two weeks last monday to find our hotel closed and our travel agents hadn't told us. We eventually found a bed for the night but as most of the hotels are closed it took a while. NOT HAPPY!!!

Found the sea at Cocoa Beach really fierce. It would have knocked my daughter over if she'd tried to go in it. Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beaches - too dangerous to go in the sea due to the amount of jelly fish.

However, we lovved it in Naples and Sanibel so will stick to west coast in the future.

It depends...We went to clearwater beach earlier in the year and didnt really enjoy it...

The wind was very strong and that lovely white sand was blowing everywhere to an extent it was painful..The beach had a lot of debris ie Seaweed etc due to the the stong surf...

It all depends on the weather i suppose.

Well we wanted to do a beach for a day on our last trip and decided on cocoa beach, parked and walked along the beach... wasnt that impressed and then walked on the main road back and wanted to see the shops... again not impressed

after seeing Mike Jones Pics of Seista Keys in Sarasota wish we had gone there instead... next time

We were in Cocoa Beach about 10 days ago and it was fine. Some damage but being repaired.
If you want these places to be still there in the future now is the time to support them

I dont like cocoa beach, as when i last went we saw washed up jellyfish! Eeeeewwwww. I get creeped out by seaweed in the sea let alone jellyfish.

I much prefer Daytona beach. although it may be quite alot busier i prefer it as you can drive onto the beach in a certain area, dogs are restricted to a narea of the beach, the sand is nice and clean plus you can also go quad bike riding which is in my opinion very fun to do up and down the beach.

Haven't tried any of the other beaches mentioned. Maybe thats something i should tell mum and dad about for possibilities for future holidays. But then again my family aren't really the sit and roast on a beach family. we much prefer the theme parks and mum enjoys shopping more than anything! LOL! :D

That's such a shame about Cocoa Beach we loved it there on our first trip, although even then there were bits of the beach nicer than others. The East coast is just that bit wilder anyway.

We like Cocoa Beach and Friday night is great at The Boardwalk which is on the pier. Great food, great cocktails and great entertainment. The Gulf Coast is still our favourite though. :-)

Hi
Just saw this thread and thought I would reply as I quite like cocoa! We often go just for the day as it is not too far.

I agree that shopping isn't great but Old Cocoa just inland over the banana river is lovely, a little bit like celebration with little craft shops, gift shops and coffee shops. There is also so a lovely park near the inland waterway, great for Picnics!!

If anybody ever goes try the fish resturant on the pier or Lobster Shanty which you will find down Atlantic Avenue, both great to watch the sunset from and always busy with locals.

I know its 'each to their own' but though I would stand up for the place!!

Ok Jo! You convinced me! I should try Cocoa again! We have not been to the beach as such in about 12 years, though been on to Kennedy a few times. To be honest, I wasn't a fan when I first saw it, we didn't stop then, but I have never really fancied going back! As I am on a mission to try and do more than just parks this year i will added to my ever increasing MUST DO list!!
