my DH is an avid baseball fan and although a NYY fan he has always wanted to go to a game regardless of whos playing.
last year the NYY were playing the Tamper Bay Devil Rays at home but as we had a tight schedule and a trip to st petes would be a whole day or probably a night stop over we decided against it.

but im happy to say i've just purchased tickets online for a game with the Boston Red Sox (world series champions) for this years trip in july

the tickets only came on sale at 5pm (our time) today and i am told they sell out quick

DH is over the moon:jump: :D :jump:

and we're in the front row:D :jump: :D

if there are any other fans out there i suggest you look today if you want to get good tickets

www.devilrays.com click on schdule and click on the little green box on the day of the match you want.

hope this might help someone

Thanks. I have just booked tickets to see the Tampa Bay Devil Rays against the New York Yankees. Thanks for the information.

Hope you have a great day at Tropicana Field Lesley, and also ross and nicola.

Actually Lesley, tickets for the Devil Rays virtually never sell out (in fact Opening Day might be the only time they ever come close to a full house). Crowds are usually pretty low but it's a great day out if you're at all interested in baseball.

However, both of you have picked games that will have better than average attendances, particularly the Yankees who have a lot of retired fans living down there.

Nice one Lesley.
Been waiting a while for the tickets to be released.I e-mailed Tampa when the schedules first came out and they said he NYY tickets wouldnt be released until February.

Anyway, have just booked 7 tickets to see Tampa Vs NYY on May 3rd.

Suzies going to be absolutely made up as she is the main baseball fan in this house, and her fave team is the Yankees.

Usually the only games that approach capacity are when they play the Yankees. There are lots of places to eat in the stadium, including an Outback stand with a limited menu. Prices are high but not too out of line. Avoid the popcorn - it is way too salty. If you like good beer there is a stand that sells a variety of imported brands, I believe it is on the second level.

thought that as the Red Sox were last seasons champions their games might be popular

I'd rather stay overnight at one of the beach resorts normally but we did the same as you a few years ago and were heading to Busch Gardens the next day.

We stayed at a Holiday Inn just a few minutes drive from the park.

It's more "motel style" than a "typical" Holiday Inn hotel but if it's just somewhere close by and relatively modestly priced, then it's not too bad.

As Gerry mentioned, most people head for the beach motels, which tend to be more expensive. There are some motels just across the Howard Franklin bridge (I-275) on SR 688 (Ulmerton Rd.), such as La quinta Inn at 688 & Roosevelt Blvd. There is also one a little further in on 34th Street. More upscale is the high-rise St. Pete Hilton downtown at about $130 a night. Stay away from anything on the south side of St. Pete.
