I haven't been to Cypress Gardens - but have been to Silver Springs twice - it's lovely - in fact we are even considering it as a potential wedding venue.

Went there 14years ago and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. A day there is a day well spent as long as it hasn't changed too much? Reports from others sound encouraging. Next visit to Florida (last visit November04) it will be on our itinerary for sure.

Dave - you could read my trip report, last posted on 24 November 2004, from our most recent visit there. I don't know how to link you direct there, butif you look in Trip Reports for 'The Halstead's 99.9% Brilliant Holiday - Day 13', you will find it in full there.

Dave,

I have only been to Cypress Gardens, though it was a few years ago, thought it was lovely for a quiet day out set in beautiful gardens though quite an expensive entrance fee. They have since given the park an overhaul and added attractions see this link for more details http://cypressgardens.com/welcome.asp

SORRY
have to disagree silver springs is terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not worth the money to get in(and we had a free ticket!), true its not disney, but this place holds no charm for adults or kids, certainly wouldnt do it again, along drive for a low rate attraction(sorry), but then this is what this board is about !.

I agree with Jules, not worth the journey or the entrance fee. If it is open again give Cypress Gardens a look.

If you are up for a journey try Homassassa Springs over on the US 19 at Port Richey. Nice stroll around looking at the various animals and that is where the injured manatees are cared for. Nice gentle boat ride from the car park to the entrance.

I know this old but thought I must add my comments - we went last October and thought it was AWFUL. IT had suffered damage after all the hurricances of last year but we were talking to locals who advised that it had really gone down hill over the last 18 months since a change of ownership. We felt the animals were in poor condition and the amazing water fountains!!!!!. The only thing that was good about the day was going into the nearby Walmart as we wouldn't eat in the park as there were flies and the pizza place shall we say didn't seem that clean!!!. I know for certain I will not go back

Just as a matter of interest

Cypress Gardens has exceeded all estimates, superseding the initial annual goal and is projecting that the park will have received over 1.5 million visitors by Nov rather than the predicted 750,000 A new water slide attraction opens in July.

Maybe worth a visit
