We are going to eat at Biergartan (DH & DS) are really fussy eaters so I have not told them yet! Just looking at the menu I wondered if anyone knew what Schnitzel, frikadelle, weinkraut and spaetzle were?
Haven't eater there but frikadelle is a pattie/burger, schnitzel is probably going to be either pork or veal which is very thin and covered in breadcrumbs with herbs and spices and delicious. I think spaetzle are dumplings.

Thanks, at least I can tell them they can have burgers!
Schnitzel is lovely - like great big flat chicken nuggets - but better, though I don't eat the veal ones.
Frikadelle is a type of meatball affair and Schnitzel is meat (traditionally veal- but I think they use chicken at the Biergarten) batted out thinly and egg and breadcrumbed, then shallow fried.
I would compare Spaetzle with pasta and I assume Weinkraut is Sauerkraut made with wine!
I peeked in the restaurant in November. The food looked very fresh, and there seemed to be quite a large selection of salads and some very nice roast pork and veggies. Not to mention the delicious looking desserts.
It's on our list for April!

We are going in April, I have never eaten veal either so hopefully it will be chicken. Going to tell DH he can have burgers or chicken nuggets although I might not mention at all where we are eating till we walk in the doors he will only keep on moaning.
we ate there last year, my dd (6) found plenty of 'normal' food to eat - they have chicken burgers (Schnitzel), potatoes, veg, normal meat, sausages etc etc - she was quite happy and really enjoyed this meal and the show we saw there
In Holland we have had frikadell and I'm sure it's like a croquette potato with some meat in the pototo mix
I've never eaten Frikadelle, Bev. Yet..... LOL
But I do get the impression it's one of those things that could be described as a hamburger, meatball, patty, meatloaf or rissole and made of any type of meat (etc) the cook chooses to use!
I'm quite excited about the Beirgarten recipe now. What will it be?
I'll take a piccy! :D
I could be wrong, now I think about it, I think my niece also orders 'croquet' sometimes when we are out, and it would make sense that that would be the potato thing. I know we have had frikadelle though - just can't remember what it was exactly!
The mystery deepens Bev.
Where's gala? LOL Help Mags!
I still can't believe we are going to eat at the Biergarten after all this time. Apart from Paul being a veggie, the smell of cabbage has put me off in the past.
Good experiences, like yours, and the fact that I popped in to have a look at the bufet has swayed us.

I live 20 minutes from Holland on the Dutch/German border.
It's not generally horsemeat in frikadellas! Horsemeat would be expensive and would not be used for fast food. The only place I have seen horsemeat avail is Belgium but quite rare to see it. It is actually minced pork for most of the frikadellas on sale. I love Frikkies with a big dollop of mustard.
Schnitzels are just flat breaded chicken, pork or veal normally with a pepper or mushroom sauce. Sauerkraut is vinegry white cabbage, ok in small doses! If they have currywurst have that..with chips and Mayo, had that for lunch yesterday...yum!
