View Full Version : Family Places to eat at MGM
In case no one has noticed, we have a new countdown (to mental extinction for dh as my mum is coming with us....)
We will be going to MGM, and have always eaten at the ABC Commissary, but last year it was c*ap. Cold or at best lukewarm rubbish is being generous. Does anyone have any recommendations for a family lunch? We were looking at the Brown Derby but are not sure if it is suitable for all of us - Matty will be 5 and Abbey will be 11. The rest of us are appropriately older!!!!
We all have good table manners so could go somewhere reasonably upmarket!
Any suggestions with where to eat and the type of food?

Try out your good manners at the 50's Prime Time, its a good fun place to eat and will amuse the kids.
We loved Hollywood and Vine. It's a buffet (with an extra childrens food area as well). There's something here to suit all the family.
We went twice last year. Our party comprise our 7 year old DS, me and DH and my Mum - we all found lots of things that we liked and the puddings were really great.
I would guess that you might need to make a PS (it's a popular place).
We ate at the Brown Derby years ago and weren't that impressed.

Thanx chaps, just printing off some menu's for discussion with dh. We are also looking at afternoon tea at the GF - I said our table manners were good!
My family loved Prime Time Diner...especially the Boursin Cheese starter...yummy!!
It was a great fun atmosphere, the S'mores were a bit sickly but the cocktails with glow ice cubes were great.

We love the Brown Derby and have been taking DD since she was 3 so no problem with children. Hope to go again this year. Menus are available on ALLEars for all the restaurants so you can get a view of the type of food and the kids meals available if required.
Pam.
We love the brown derby! But H&V is a good choice too Also if there are a few of you you could look at the options on Sunset Blvd, Rosies, Sunset ranch & Catalina Eddie's all share the same tables. http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/mgm/m_rest.htm

h&v good for kids
excellent choice
We are big Brown Derby fans and find a trip to MGM isn't the same without a visit.
Lots of people take children to the BD. The ones we've seen there all seemed to be enjoying their food and certainly didn't look out of place.
I think the kids menu is quite reasonably priced too.

Another vote here for Hollywood & Vine, loads of choice from the buffet and a cute kids buffet (and you can order fries extra at no charge!!)
And the sweet buffet is scrummy, lots of little cakes and gateau to choose from and the kids obligatory icecream factory with all the sprinkles you can manage!!!:D:D:D
And with the Fantasmic package, tickets for a great view of the show!!!
We all loved the Sci-Fi Dine In, it's a great set up and the food was gorgeous! :D

Mama Melrose. Out of the way and not very busy. It is right next to were Toy Story (Buzz & Woody) have autographs so this kept our 2 DS's happy.
The waitress really fussed over them (5 & 9).

We ate at the Backlot express cafe near the star tours. We all agreed that the burgers were the best we had anywhere. If you want a simple burger & chips type of lunch I would definitely go here as it is a nice open place which is sort of semi outside/inside.

I loved Hollywood & Vine - especially the all-you-can-eat soft serve icecream. I like the fact that it was a buffett and there was plenty of choice for adults and kids.
