I will taking my family to Orlando this August for the first time (two weeks). I am not sure if it is wise to buy the attraction tickets before we go. A friend of mine told me yesterday to buy the tickets in Orlando as the online ticket agencies etc are too expensive over here.

So far, I have found online that the 5 park Universal Studio's etc for 14 days would work out ok. They all don't seem to have a 7 day duration for some unknown reason.

The Disney tickets have a more flexible allocation duration, but the 7 day ticket is ONLY slightly cheaper than the 14 day one.

Is there someone who can give me good advice on this please.

When we first went we brought the 5 day + 2 waterpark (included in the ticket) Disney pass and the 14 day 5 park flexi ticket. That should be more than enough for the 2 weeks. Remember you will need some relaxation time.

We used the virgin travelstore but unfortunately they are no longer running. I wouldn't advise Keith Prowse as they are much more expensive than the others. Try best4attractions.co.uk. They are offering a good deal of £147 for the 5 day premium tickets with a free Planet Hollywood meal and £110 for the 5 park flexi ticket and also a free meal again. I think that is a good deal. I will still look around for you though.

As there will be 5 of us going of which 4 will be classed as adults and 1 as a child, prices will be in the region of £1,250 approx.

It depends how old your child is. I don't know what the ages for adults start at.
