We are planning to go to Epcot on Wednesday and then back on Friday evening for a meal and illuminations.
I was planning to have a look around on Wed at the restaurants in the world show case and then book one for Friday. Is this possible and do people have any suggestions?

If you book on the Wednesday before you leave you will get your choice of restaurant and table time. We often book in for the evening when we arrive at the park in the morning and have never had a problem. We have even got a table a booking a couple of hours before but if you do that you may have to take a very early or very late time. You can book at the restaurant podium, guest relations or phone on WDW-DINE. We often book a dinner table at the park when we arrive as the more popular restaurants can be busy and then if we decide not to stay for dinner we cancel. One time at MK we didn't intend staying late and then couldn't get in anywhere so we do that now to avoid any disappointment.
Have a great time!
Pam.
For a real dining experience the Teppanyaki restaurant in Japan is our favourite - the meal is cooked on a hot plate right in front of you!
We booked this in the morning at guest services on our arrival at the park with no problems.
If you wanted to watch illuminations from the restaurant then your best choice is the Rose & Crown in England, although they willl not guarantee outside seating beforehand, you would need to make a 7.30 PS and then arrive early and hope you are lucky.

At Rose & Crown, get a PS, be early, be nice to the seating hostess, have a relaxing drink (or two) and they will endeavour to get you a good seat.
Just sit back and watch the other arrogant people who just walk past, push to the front and DEMAND a good table. They normally get an inside table, then try to stand infront of the outside tables during the show and get sent back indoors to their tables by staff.
Enjoy.

Can't beat Le Cellier in Canada - best steaks, fantastic service, nice atmosphere, tasty complimentary bread sticks, awesome cheddar cheese soup and reasonable prices!
