I am planning a short trip to DLP in August. Currently looking at
either
Holiday Inn, done independently is £738 for all 4 including flights & tickets
Hotel Cheyenne, DLP Package + own flights is £884 (same exact package from Cresta is £1323, so you really need to shop around)
I am wondering how bad the offsite hotels are - they look lovely hotels, the rooms etc look nicer than the cheyenne (and the Holiday Inn is actually more expensive than the Cheyenne when booked via the DLP website), it also has a swimming pool which the Cheyenne doesn't - but is the location a big problem?
As an aside, I am amazed at the price differences for the exact same thing. I have been quoted £1209, £1079, £922, and £825 for the exact same room, tickets and flights from Cresta, DLP, Thomson, and Holiday Inn website respectively (adding on tickets and AirFrance flights as needed to compare equally)
No-one quote for EasyJet flights, and if I substitute those for AirFrance, I can drop the price to £738 - compared with £1209 that's quite a difference!

Bev, how would you get to the parks from the Holiday Inn? You may need to add transfer costs into the price comparison?

Cannot help with the park transfers as we took the car but according to the website there are free transfers. We have stayed there twice (Holiday Inn)and it is a really lovely hotel, the rooms have a circus theme with curtains (like a big top) around the kids beds and they have their own tv as well.

there are three hotels together the MY Travel Explorers (where we stayed) the movenpick and i think its the holiday inn these are the disney "approved" off site hotels. they are a short bus ride away from the parks they run approx every 15 mins from all three hotels.
is that the hotel you mean?

yes that's the hotel I mean, the explorers movenpick, holiday inn and kuriad are all together
Alison the bus transfers are free, these hotels are sort of offsite, in the same way the downtown disney hotels are not 'onsite' hotels but aren't really offsite either. I just heard they are close from one person, and a half an hour bus trip frmo another, and I don't want to stay there if it's half an hour on the bus, but if it's a 5 minute bus trip then I am happy to stay there. They look close on the dlp website.

We visited DLP for the first time in October 2004 for a quick Disfix. We picked up really cheap flights from Prestwick (£4.99 + taxes each way) to Beauvais and booked to stay in the Kyriad (also very cheaply), one of the affiliated hotels and right next door to Holiday Inn, Explorers and Movenpick. The location was great. The buses came every 15 mins (more frequently during peak times like opening/closing) and only took 5-8 mins to reach the park. We also bought Annual Passes which I would recommend if you plan to visit more than a couple of days - well worth it for discounts etc. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I can definitely recommend the Holiday Inn. We stayed there Easter 2004. It took 10 mins at the most to get to the parks. The hotel room was nice. It had a circus theme. The bedroom had a curtained-off area, like a big top, with a bunk bed and a television. The indoor swimming pool was a nice extra.
The rooms were nicer than the Cheyenne but having stayed there also I would say on balance we did prefer the Cheyenne. We love having the breakfast in the park and we missed that. The breakfast isn't included at the Holiday Inn and we weren't impressed when we did sample it.
I got a great deal by booking Easyjet flights and a 21 day pre-purchase room rate from the official website (they vow to offer the lowest rate).

Stayed in the Holiday Inn twice last year, so can definitely recommend it.
Remember it is a 5* hotel with probably one of the best pools.
While you are not within safe walking distance, shuttles are frequent.
Definitely allows you to have more money to spend at the parks.

I am not seeing a pre-purchase rate on the holiday inn website and am ony being offered a standard cancellable rate on a superior room - it's still cheaper than DLP website, but if it's possible to get a better deal then obviously I'd prefer that!

I don't see any pre-purchase rates available for Aug but there are some available for July. Maybe they'll become available nearer the time. Maybe you could book at the cancellable rate and keep checking then you can get the saving if it becomes available. When we booked this it was called the 21 day advance purchase rate(or something like that). I think they are just calling it the advance purchase rate now. The savings can be very good.
