Hi Mike, I am so sorry for interrupting your valuable trip reporting time (there are soooo many Dibbers anxiously awaiting your voluminous tome!!!!)

BUT, thanks to your superb reports I have added a 2/3 day trip to Siesta Key to our upcoming hol. we are hoping to stay at southern end of Midnight pass road (near Turtle beach) and I was wondering

how long do you think it would take to walk along the beach to Siesta Key village/ Siesta public beach?

Please bear in mind that we are not superhikers like yourself but mere mortals whose only form of exercise is to climb 3 flights of stairs in order to DIBB!!!! (so a gentle stroll is more the order of the day)

Many, many thanks for your help

Di XX

PS. have already printed out Mapquest directions to THE BROKEN EGG!!!!

Hi Di.. sorry, I only spotted this when I saw your email! Been having a night off to chill and watch the footy!

Basically I think you'll need to drive 9or taxi) to the Village area from that far down the island... Crescent beach, in the 'middle' of SK is about as far as you'd want to walk (1 mile or so) .. as far down as the Stickney Pass Rd off the island and yo're up to 2+ miles to the village... if you are close to Turtle Beach (which is beautiful!) you are probably 4-5 miles from the village at the northern end.

Don't despair though.. there are some good restaurants and bars at Turtle Beach end, and also at the Stickney Pass junction... the Boatyard Boardwalk just onto the mainland is pretty and worth a night out.

And of course you can cab it up there.. shouldn't cost very much.

Hope this helps. Pics attached.. Turtle Beach last week (you can just see the northern/village end in the far distance)

Thanks for the info Mike, the photos look fabulous.

Just discovered that there is a Sweet Tomatoes on S. Tamiami Trail, did you try it? I've also heard about a place called The Old Salty Dog (at least I think its a restau!!)

If there any other eateries you'd recommend... (well actually I suppose I could wait for next weeks' installments of your trippie)

Anyway will let you get back to the important stuff (you do see the number of viewers looking at your novel don't you!!!).
I must say that I along with several hundreds (nay thousands!!!) of Dibbers are hanging on your every word

(if I could figure out how to add smilies etc. there'd be several here) never mind.

cheers D xx

..thanks!:D I've been away fro the weekend but am back in the saddle now and will get on with part 5 when I've caught up on the posts.

We did go to the Sweet Tomatoes on S. Tamiami several times!:D Days 9-17 or thereabouts, so you'll have to wait a bit!:wink there are a few more eateries described later, but Subway and Sweet Toms covered most of it, with one visit each to the Daiquiri Deck and the Beach Club in Siesta Village.

Re: smilies... when you reply to a post do you see the smilie list next to the box you are typing in? Just click the one you want and it will appear in the text.
