Just a passing comment....when we went to WDW last time, the cast members working on the rides were really into their roles. espcially those on POTC, haunted mansion etc....but this time, they seemed far less enthusiastic and "themed", in fact the only "pirate" themed cast member we encountered was in the shop, where an "over retirement age" server was really into the spirit of acting like a pirate!!! I remember being "attacked" with a sword by cast members on POTC in the past, and this time they just seemed bored with the whole thing!

i feel this sometimes as well but then i think that poor person has been doing that all day,and after all we are all human, yes every guest should be made to feel the ride is just for them, but spare a thought the person going round jungle cruise for the 50th time that day!!
we have had some great cms on that laughing and jokeing about that!!

I'm sure it must get boring to a point, but I'm sure it would be less so if they put a bit more effort into it .....

I think you are right. They are still very good but they have taken the brunt of the cost cutting and they are not generally as enthusiastic or numerous as they used to be.

As an ex-TDSUK( The Disney Stores UK) castmember, albeit retail, but it is still the Synergy of the company. The show must be conveyed to the guest, be personalised to the guest and enjoyed by the guest.
Alas the disney company realise that working the same role day in day out causes boredom to the castmember hence the useage of a zone schedual, which means every hour or 2 hours they will do something different to eliviate the boredom however, its down to the individual CM to ensure they put on a good show for the guest and it helps greatly if the CM enjoys it also.
I have to admit from day to day I would advise on tickets and the theme parks and other information including flights, which had nothing to do with Disney, but relevant to ensure the guests expectations were exceeded...not met, exceeded!
The problem in other parks is that they recruit young people that stand there and put a thumb up to say the car is safe to depart and talk about what a colleague may have done the other night. This I have yet to see in a Disney park and no doubt it does, but in general the interaction between Disney CMs and Guests are generally very good, but cant help sympathising with them when they have just completed a busy summer season and they have dealt with tourists in their thousands and many may forget the basic courtesies to the CM and the their role in the park....as without them the magic seems less real.
The energy that you see in the CMs that are making an effort are the true Disnyfied staff;...live,work,breath,eat and sleep Disney.
When you work for Disney, you appreciate the true meaning of service as well as the whole experience..
Some just need a smattering of pixie dust
(:D That brings back memories of doing our pixie dust routine before we started work)
I do hope everyone going this year gets the guest service they deserve!!!!:D

I just wanted to give a huge thumbs up  to the girl that accompanied us on the Jaws ride at Universal last month. She threw herself wholeheartedly into the "performance" and really made it a great experience...I can still hear her now....
"ooh,ooh, I want my Mo-meeeeee!" :D
It really makes all the difference to your enjoyment of the ride.

When they're good they're great and when they're not it tends to spoil it a bit.
We met some brilliant ones that interacted well with the children and did a brilliant job. Others were somewhat officious.
