can anyone tell me ,when you buy a refill mug at a disney hotel
is it only valid for the length of your stay, we are returning to pop century and wondered if we should take our mugs with us. :jump:

heh lauren,
not so sure about that one but at the water parks(disney ones)you could buy a mug for the whole day and whenever you returned you could buy a sticker for the day, so you could use the same mug but got your drinks cheaper.
wether the hotels do a similar thing i am not sure.

Yes, we've always taken ours back with us if we have been returning to the same hotel & no one has ever questioned it. Many people have "old style" ones that were issued years ago too. Hope this helps

we tend to buy new ones on every trip. for 2 reasons I suppose, 1 is it's only $12 for unlimited drinks for the stay (which for us at 21 nights is nothing at all) and 2 I only allow 1 mug per stay to be brought home the rest go in the bin, as they've served their purpose..... JMHO

Hi,

I think the "official line" is that the resort mugs are only valid for your length of your stay and if you return later you should purchase new ones.

However, I've seen many old versions and I've not seen this rule enforced.

In complete ignorance I must say:o: we went to WL the second time and used the mugs from our first trip.
We were never advised/informed that they were one stay only and I tend to think that if Disney do not want you to reuse them, then they would change the design regularly to make cheapos like me more obvious!:D

The designs do and have changed over the years although I've no idea on the frequency.

I've never seen any Disney "mug police" although there have been a few people "tut-tutting" in queue's though.

I have Pop Century ones but expect to get new ones at Coronado Springs cos the design will be different won't it. I was told by another board that you are supposed to purchase new mugs each stay and it was quite a heated debate, but having said that I never saw any rules printed up ANYWHERE stating this and when I was there I was too busy to see who was using what to get their drinks, and if I had have seen anyone, hey... I'm on holiday and I'm not the Disney Police so mind me own!

I have stayed at Caribean beach a few times and have taken the old ones to use.

I have never been stopped before. i actually asked on of the CM if it was ok and they said it was, They recommend that you buy new ones every time you stay but they don't enforce it.

I will be buying new ones this year as staying at POR so thought i better get ones for there

Hehehehehehe! This is another "Can of worms" thread over on the DIS isnt it! That, along with "Does my just 3 year old really need a ticket?" or "Can I swim in other resorts pools?" :D

As far as I understand it (from an enjoyable hour reading a lengthy, bitchy and hilarious thread on the DIS) is that when this system was introduced, many moons ago, Disney said these mugs were "good forever at the resort you bought them at". More recently, they had a policy change, and ruled that mugs were only good for your one stay, however, CMs are told that mugs are good for the whole year that is printed on them.

Confusing? Not much!

At the end of the day, there are no "Disney Mug Police" and you are very, very unlikely to be challenged, as it appears the less salubrious guests will refill anything from a Sea World cup to an ice bucket and get away with it!

Personally, Im the same as Val, I couldnt be bothered to lug these things home with me, or lug them back again! $12 is not a lot to pay for "free drinks" for the rest of your stay...I would buy new ones!

Yes, this can be a RREEAAALLYYY flame inducing question !!

I only have two things to add:

1 F-D (sis version) has just returned from Disney, having bought a mug..she was told at the counter that this was good for ever !!!

BUT

2 The mug designs have changed in recent years and there is now a statemnt printed on them saying "good for duratiion of stay only"

However,

I have seen all varieties of mug (old style and just plain thermos flasks) being used....

I would not lose too much sleep over this as I really think the "rules" if any are not stringently enforced.

i use my old mugs, unless the design has changed, which has only happened once. i know the mugs are only $12, but times this by 4 and it mounts up. also, when i bought it, i was also told that it was good forever! therefore, my mug doesn't have any claim printed on it that it's only good for a year. i don't feel as if i'm cheating disney at all, as for 98% of the fortnight i'm there, i spend all my money in disney, whether on souvenirs or food, which as we all know is a bit more expensive than outside. having said this, i would never stay anywhere else but on site as i am a complete disney addict.
