We were thinking of spending our last day in Florida at Big Cat rescue before flying home out of Tampa on the Friday evening.

Looking on the website though it would seem that we can only do the kids tour as DS will still only be 2, and these only run on Saturdays, does anyone know if we can still go on a Friday or do you have to do a tour to go.

Thanks

As far as I remember they only let you in as part of a tour, you can't just turn up anytime and walk around by yourself.

Allow an extra 1/2 hour on your drive time as Tampa traffic is quite heavy with loads of road works. It's also tricky to find, we drove past it twice.

Contact Doormatt through the DIBB. He works as a volunteer there and will give you all the info you need. He gave us so much info before our visit and even met us when we visited - a really nice guy!

As it isn't a zoo as such, the only way to see it one of the tours, so unfortunately you would have to visit on the Saturday.

We had the same problem when we went in April and weren't able to get there on a Saturday so we had to give it a miss. Still on the bright side it gives us something to look forward to next time.

Thanks everyone.

Oh what a pain :( I really want to go here, we'll just have to make a seperate trip, it would have been a perfect way to spend the last day on the way to the airport.

Hi All,

There is another option if you are unable to make a regularly scheduled tour. You can book a private tour. This will cost you more money, but you can set up a time that will work for you and can bring the little ones.

The fee schedule is confusing even for me, but it runs about the same as our photo tours. See more info at bottom of this page about private tours:

http://www.bigcatrescue.org/photo_safaris.htm

If you would like to set something up, you should email Kathryn at Kids@BigCatRescue.org. She will be able to give you better info on pricing than I can. Be advised, she will be out of town for three weeks in July.

If you are coming during the summer months, you will want to schedule a tour for early in the morning or late in the afternoon in order to see more of the animals. In the hot weather, they are not very active during the day and hide in their cool den boxes. You will still see most of the types of cats. But, instead of seeing 10 cougars, you might only see 1 or 2.

In the afternoon, the cats start getting more active around 3-4 pm in anticipation of being fed.

We are very close to the airport and easy to get to. The sanctuary is located next to the same expressway that the aiport is on.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for that Matt, that's wonderful :) I'll look into doing that instead!
