Buying PS2 games - help please!

We've been asked to buy some PS2 games for a friend when we go to Orlando in November.
Can anyone give any advice regarding compatability and is there anything we should know before buying?
Also where is the best place to buy - Walmart, Virgin ????

American PS2 games will not play on a pal machine unless it is chipped to play foreign imports.

The only games that are compatible with uk machines are Gameboy ones.

Janny is correct in what she is saying. The American ps2 games are a different format (ntsc I think), rather than the PAL system used in the uk. They can be used on a chipped ps2, but they will play in black and white, unless you have an addiitonal 'conversion cable'.
