I'm tempted to book up Discovery Cove after reading positive reviews.

But... both DW and I are not good swimmers and I couldn't cope with the snorkelly bit at Typhoon lagoon.

So is DC a no no for us, or would we still enjoy it?

Thanks
Pete

Hi Pete

Remember you can wear life jackets if you are not confident swimmers or wetsuits which provide some buoyancy.

The lagoon pool with the fishes in is quite cold but you can still enjoy the fishes without snorkelling although you will probably not get as much out of the experience.

I didn't do the ray pool but the pool with the waterfall was lovely (and warmer than the others), the river is great but very deep in places and there is a strongish current near the waterfall so if you are at all concerned wear a life jacket and you will find it much more relaxing.

The dolphin swim is partly in deep water but again you can wear a jacket, I would say if you think you would enjoy the dolphin swim then go for it, if not then I would save the money.

Nicola

ps remember you do get 7 days admission to S/W or Bush Gardens included although if you have a flexi ticket already that won't be a benefit!

Pete,
you should be ok. They provide everyone with a bouyancy aid and a type of wetsuit top which keeps you afloat in the water. The part where you 'play' with the dolphins is in waist deep water untill they pull you around, where they go out into the deeper water. If yu did not want to do this bit I am sure they would not mind, but with the bouyancy aids it would not be a problem anyway. There is a small beach area with recliner chairs on it to relax on. If you are not good swimmers then the 'lazy' river is not as 'lazy' as you think in places. Saying that though, as with all WDW water parks there is lifegaurds every 50ft around the lazy river and with the life vests you would be ok.

Its a great day, its a shame you do not get a little longer with the dolphins.

Im not a great swimmer....can swim but get scared out of my depth.

We did discovery cove this yr and it was great....during the dolphin swim you have to tread water a little(although your wet suit really helps to keep you afloat), the trainer takes you to the deepr water -15ft- and was very concerned about my dd10, I had to tell her to be more concerned about me as dd can swim lol. she let me hold on to her shoulder till it was turn to be pulled to shallow water.:jump: amazing

The lazy river is deep in parts and I felt out of my depth so let dh and kids go round these bits.

There were a lot of adults with life vests over their wet suits at the snorkal reef and you get lots of time to practice...even I manged ..so why not give it a go!

Even if you are not great swimmers the salt water and the wet suits give you extra buoyancy, there are also extra life jackets avaliable for peace of mind. I did DC in April with my Boyfriend and 7 year old daughter who cant swim at all and we all did the dolphin swim. Even if you only go once it is the experience of a lifetime and something you will never regret doing. Go for it!!!!

DID THIS LAST WEEK, WITH DH, DD 7, AND DS 9, ALL OF WHICH DID NOT HAVE LIFE JACKETS, I THOUGHT I WAS OK, BUT PUT ONE ON WHEN I WENT IN THE LAZY RIVER AS IT GETS DEEP. HAD A WONDERFUL TIME, BUT WOULD NOT DO IT AGAIN, AS IT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE! ALSO BOUGHT MY UNDERWATER CAMERA THERE FOR $19.99 (SAME ONE IN WALMART FOR $6. AND THEN I LOST IT IN THE WATER AFTER TAKING ALL MY PHOTOS. MY NAME AND DATE WERE IN THE BACK, BUT NO ONE HANDED IT IN!

DW has always wanted to do a swim with dolphins so I think on balance we'll give it a try.

I know it's expensive but, hey you only live once.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

Cheers Pete

I can swim, but not in deep water shudder I swam out holding on to the trainer, but i was so nervous and the dolphin sensed this and wouldn't let me near him. I told the trainer it didn't matter just let the rest of the family do that part of the interaction. I was happy just to do the shallow water interaction.
But she was adamant I would get my swim with a dolphin and brought out Capricorn - very old and no teeth :D Capricorn is able to swim in the shallow water, so youngest DD(who because of my reaction was as nervous as me by now) and I did our swim in the shallow water.

The lazy river was the next hurdle for me, I got so far with my life jacket on and had to turn back when i got to the deep parts. but not to be defeated, I got hold of a float and followed the rest of the family all around the river. I might add that both DD's were either side of me and DH was keeping up the rear, so to speak. :D

Had a great day and you will too.

I have booked DC for the 4th July and I can only manage a bit of doggie paddle, but I thought that if I don't do it and just watch Emily doing it, then I would probably kick myself so I'll put on a life jacket.
Not looking forward to being in deep water, but Emily is a strong swimmer so she can look after me for a change!!!...lol
Love Rio

I hate the snorkeling at TL but DC is nothing like that. You do not have to snorkel or put your head anywhere near the water for the dolphin interaction.
