Havent been to one in florida but elsewhere in the USA
NFL you have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the nearest to Orlando with the Miami Dolphins to the South and the Jacksonville Jaguars to the North.
Basketball you have the Orlando Magic
Baseball you have the Florida Marlins and Tampa bay devil rays.
For tickets to any event i would try ticketmaster (http://www.ticketmaster.com/)

Went to see the Harlem Globetrotters play a university team at MSG New York. An experiencee but a warning to those thinking of taking in a Basketball game.....The Game is very stop start and the americans did not seem to sit still for 5 mins during the entire game. Hard to watch the game with people cinstantly walking past your line of sight :-(

We went to see tampa Bay Buccaneers for a night game .. i loved every minute, but those were in the days that you could buy a ticket at the ground, unlike now, that they are good and in a new stadium. tickets are kinda harder to get a hold of.
DD was 18 months old when we went, she was fine apart from when they set a cannon off on getting a touchdown...:D
Have been to see :
Orlando Magic ( basketball )
USF Bulls ( Tampa college football )
Tampa Devil Rays ( baseball )
I loved the baseball and the football was brill for the atmosphere, basketball was too bitty for me.
You could also consider the orlando predators ( indoor football ) and the world champion tampa bay lightning ice hockey team - if the strike is called off for next season.

Your choice of what you might see rather depends on WHEN you are going out there.
The American Football (NFL) season runs from early September to December, the play offs start just after New Year. College football runs from September to December, then the best teams play Bowl games. (NOTE If you get a chance, beg, steal, or borrow a ticket for the Buccaneers at Raymond James stadium).
The NBA season is almost finished, at the late play off stage now. Starts again late October/November.
Baseball season is underway now - Play offs round about October. If you are in Florida in February/March time, then a lot of teams conduct their 'Spring Training' and pre-season warm up games in many locations around the state.
The NHL season starts October/November too, as a previous poster stated this season was cancelled due to a players strike.
All of these sports have 'minor' teams too.
Then of course theres the golf and tennis, and I think I'm right in saying that Tampa had a Major League 'Soccer' team - that's footy to you and me, called the Mutiny.

As we go in November, we have been to several NFL games over the years. My DH is a big Dolphins fan so we try to catch one of their games each time. We've also done the Bucs games - although their tickets are like gold dust these days. There's also the Jaguars in Jacksonville (about 3 hours north of Orlando) - we've not been there but have though about it in the past!
My DH (wolfcry) did a good report of our visit to the Dolphins game last yeaar in his trip report.......HERE (http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48288&highlight=wolfcry)

We went to watch the baseball in Tampa in May to see Tampa Bay Devilrays absolutely hammer the New York Yankees 11-4.
They went on to win the 4 match series at home, against NY for the first time in their history.
Crowds not very big at the Tampa games though which gave the game a lack of atmosphere, but well worth seeing anyway.

Yep there used to be a football ( soccer ) team in Tampa called the Mutiny. They used to play at the Ray J stadium as well. Unfortunately despite some really dedicated fans they never got the numbers and the MLS took away the franchise in 2001 I think and the team folded.
