Can anyone advise please how long it takes from wdw to the everglades?
Are the everglade airboats worth travelling to?
Are the airboats only in the everglades region only?

Thanks very much

The closest to WDW is probably Boggy Creek see here (http://www.bcairboats.com/) for info and a great video. Lots of Dibbers have used them so a search should bring up a few reports.

According to the national parks website airboats are banned in the Everglades national park. They do have glass bottom boats and canoe tours though.

Boggy Creek will probably be your best bet unless you are staying down near the everglades and can visit one just outside the national park boundries.

According to a directions site it should take about 4 and a half hours to get to the everglades from Orlando - but that all depends on where abouts you are actually staying and where abouts in the Everglades you want to go.

Hi Dawn

We've done both the Everglades and Boggy Creek. Unless you are going to the Everglades area for another reason I wouldn't personally consider it worth a 9 hour round trip just for the airboats.

I've no idea what the cost is in the Everglades as our ride was part of a tour. The only difference between the two was that our particular ride also included entrance to an area where alligators were kept in captivity. We also got to see more wildlife than at Boggy Creek but that could just be the luck of the draw on the day.

Boggy Creek is fine and gives you the thrill of riding on an airboat without all the travel. I was really lucky as I got to sit up top with the driver/pilot/captain so got an even better view across the water. That is available to everyone, just get there early and be the first to ask.

We have done a couple of Everglades airboat trips while down on Marco Island and they are brilliant.

We have seen so much wildlife - my DH is a real birds of prey fan and he's seen all sorts of eagles and hawks - including a bald eagle that followed us up a river.

It would be a long way to go for just an airboat trip, but the whole area is a great place to visit for a few days.

Can't beat a genuine Florida Everglades airboat ride:D

Hi Pops.

One of the company's we've used in the Everglades for airboats is Speedy Johnsons - excellent and very good value for money.

Check out their website http://www.speedyjohnsons.com/
We met racoons, loads and loads of gators, an ostrich (yes!) a wild boar, loads of different birds and there's even a dolphin in the bit that they take you:D If I knew how to put photos on here, I'd post some.

I can't remember the name of the other one, we were just driving around and chose them - it was an "eco friendly" tour.

We're just down the road from Cape Coral in August - at Caloossa Yacht Club Ft Myers Beach:cool:

We used Boggy Creek Airboats (www.bcairboats.com) and they were fantastic. The East Lake fish camp i think is the best one to visit as it has a fantastic southern restraunt which does an awesome fry up.
