Where is the best place to get a proper cup of English/British tea in Central Florida? My friends are coming over next week and they enjoy their tea.

you say your friends are coming over and your location is celebration - do you really live there? do you own sherlocks tearooms? if you don't then i would try there - or get them to bring their own t-bags with them (if your friends are from UK). i wouldn't go without mine!

THanks for the responses. I do live in Celebration and have been to Sherlock's....it is a great place and have wonderful Brit owners. My purpose for the posting was to see if others know about Sherlock's and also if anyone has been to other proper tea rooms here in Central Florida

i thought that .... i did see the brit owners on tv at sherlocks tearooms doing an interview when it was first opening. i haven't been to celebration yet but we're going next trip (not long now) and i plan to call into sherlocks!
how lucky are you ... living beside the house of the mouse!!!!!
are there apartments/houses at celebration? i haven't seen another english tea room anywhere else but maybe others will have. it sherlocks overly busy around any particular times of the day?

There is a tearoom on the 192 called Churchills which is reputed to be very good.
hi,
there is an english tea room with the full works in mount dora which is not far from orlando, the village like town is well worth a visit in it's own right. very new england. it also has a large flea and antique market at the week end. very good items not some of the usual junk!
Can't you have proper afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian?
Hiya
When we were in Florida in 2002, we went to Old Town and there was a British shop there. Absolutely fantastic. Coming from Scotland it was great to see bottles if Irn Bru:jump:
They had a small tea room at the back of the shop where they sold tea in china cups and scones with jam and cream- yummy.
Not sure if it is still there, but I would highly recommend it.

isanda - yeah you're right there (tea at gf) but don't know that they serve "english tea" . i think i'm going to try it out though on next trip. still trying to talk dh into going!!! i just want to have a nosey around really but would be too embarrassed "to not have tea" if you know what i mean.
it is ok to wander around the inside of all disney hotels and take pics etc if not staying in one (staying at pors for 1 wk). is anywhere out of bounds - i think i read somewhere that the main pool areas are out of bounds - but is this just for using & can you still get access to have a look and take pics.
some of the pics of dis hotels are amazing - they look fantastic - well worth a look myself - me finks!
sorry - totally of the topic here although could do the rounds for "afternoon tea"!! :jump:

Dont see the point in travelling 6500 miles to drink tea ;-) just as bad as all those 'other' holidaymakers who travel to tenerife to eat pie and chips...
When in America, drink iced tea, coffee or any number of other drinks...same goes for the number of brits you see in epcot, eating fish and chips....????
If you dont like "foreign muck" then stay home... make more space in the parks for me...
P.S.. for those (like my ma and pa) who dont eat "foreign muck"... when was the last time you saw an english tea plantation... just cos it says "yorkshire tea" on the box... it doesnt actually grow just outside of Keighley you know...Potatos, Tomatoes... nothing particularly indiginous about those either ..
P.P.S. This was all typed with a big ol' grin on my face and if I've upset or offended anyone.. it was completely deliberate ;-)

ok point taken - but some of us do like to have a cup of what we call "english tea" - the brands we get at home. i also take my tea and coffee with me so if i do feel the need for a proper cup then i can have it at the hotel.

The History of Tea
Five thousand years ago, China's legendary Emperor Shen Nung discovered tea. People outside the Far East enjoyed tea for the first time less than 500 years ago. Tea has played an important role in world history ever since. Today the world drinks more tea than any other beverage except water. Tea both calms and stimulates, warms and cools and above all tastes delicious.
How to Brew Tea
While the verbiage may change, the traditional way of brewing tea should not. The steps are as follows:
* Warm the pot to remove any chill
* Add one teaspoon full of tea per person plus one for the pot
* Add water that has just come to a boil
* Let the tea steep for a good five minutes... Pour and enjoy!

Yes sherlocks was very good. You could almost forget you were in Florida and we had a nice chat with the lady working there. although Celebration reminded us of a set from the Trueman Show!!!
Afternoon tea at the GF is a " must do". Really relaxing, Great service, and a good way to cool off in the afternoon sun.
What happend to the original man who opened Sherlocks? Did he give it up to come back to the UK?

Word of advice.
Take your own tea bags.
You will never find a good substitute in the Supermarket, and tea bags weigh so little in your suitcase you'll never know they were there.
But at 8am in the morning when you WANT a proper cuppa, you'll be glad you did!!
And who wants to waste your holiday searching for a restaurant that serves it?
You could be doing SO much more than searching Orlando for a decent tea bag!

Was not impressed with Sherlocks. Thought the tea was not good, carrot cake even worse.
Have never had a decent cup of tea in the US, we wait until we get home.
