View Full Version : Pool Heating
Will we need pool heating in a rented villa at the end of October? Does a south facing pool make a difference?
Ken
In a word - yes. South facing is nice so you have sun on the pool area all day, but in our experience it doesn't heat the water enough for comfort.

Yes you'll need pool heating in October. We often go then and the water is quiet chilly without it. Especially if you have a spa then it is nicer to have warm water in it.
As for south facing - it isn't all that crucial in Florida. The sun is much higher in the sky than in the UK so unless the villa is 2 storey high it's not really a big issue out there even in the winter.

Yes. Make sure you pay for it before leaving the UK too.
We have been in May, Sept & Nov and had pool heat every time. Theres nothing better than relaxing in the pool at the end of the day and when the sun goes down the water goes cold quite quickly

definately yes, even tho it is still very hot during the day the water will be ice cold, we found that out to our unpleasant surprise in 00 on our first visit last (2 weeks in oct) it was absolutely baking hot, but the water was frozen cold, brrrrrrrrrr
Guys

Last week August/early September you should be ok without pool heating. The water may feel cool as the outside temperature is very warm at that time of year but once you're in the water you should be quite comfortable.
If you prefer the pool a bit warmer then go for the pool heating - I always think its a good idea if there is a jacuzzi spa as I like that a bit warmer especially if I'm using it in the evenings. Most owners will let you decide when you get there so at these times of year I'd wait until I get there and put a toe in and see whether you need it or not.
hey kirstie why should you pay for pool heating in the uk
Last couple of times we went mid september and the pool was Very warm both times! We didnt need it.

If you're going between October and March it is probably better to pay for it in the UK as it will be turned on for you in advance and you won't have to wait for the pool to warm up. Most guests do have pool heating in the winter months though so ours is pretty much permanently on between these months so the warm up time is minimal.
Outside those dates personally I would put a toe in first and if it was too cool for me call the Management company and ask them to turn it on. It doesn't cost any more and you might not need it. Although a warm pool is nice when it is very hot it can actually be nicer to cool off in the pool.

It can take a few days for the pool to heat up to the right temp so If the rental company know about it in advance they can switch it on a few days before you arrive.

First time we went in Last week October first week November 2000, was advised not to have pool heating as it would be warm enough - yeah for an eskimo. Our advice would be to GET POOL HEATING.
