I have just phoned travel city direct and asked them about this credit card inprint for the car and the hotel they have told me that i have to leave a $250 deposit for the car and the hotel (ramada in maingate) does not need a deposit

Thats why I upgraded to Platimum Insurance. Then u dont have to leave a credit card imprint.

I have just spoken to dollar and what TCD told me is just not true. So ive wasted money upgrading insurance and upgrading car!

I've used dollar before and without Plat. Insurance found I always needed to leave credit card print. With Plat. all OK.

I think it's there additional protection (for them) in case you do have a bump and you don't have every insurance under the Sun

In what way have you wasted money? You need the extra insurance anyway and surely you upgraded the car because you wanted an upgraded car?

We had Platinum insurance with Dollar last April and still had to leave a CC imprint. although on the 2 previous times weve used Dollar we didnt have to.

I upgraded the Insurance to avoid having to leave a credit card imprint or a cash deposit.
